Tampa RB Derrick Ward Getting More Carries?

After signing running back Derrick Ward to a big contract in the 2009 offseason, the Tampa Bay coaching staff didn't use him as much as most observers thought they would. Cadillac Williams ended up with 97 more carries than Ward, but there are indications Ward will be busier in 2010.

"You always want to establish the run, and toward the end of the year we were able to do that a little bit more," Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris said. "Of course, you feel like you should give it to him (meaning Ward) even more. If I can get him the ball more this season, that's usually going to result in more wins and more happy faces around here."

Fantasy Impact:

Ward was a trendy sleeper last season who didn't live up to the hype. With the Buccaneers possibly starting two rookie receivers in Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams, and quarterback Josh Freeman entering his second season, the Buccaneers are going to have to establish their ground game to take some heat off of the youngsters. Ward might be worth a flyer after you have already selected your starters at running back, because he still possesses some moderate potential.
