Saints sign Ladell Betts

The New Orleans Saints didn’t wait long to get their replacement for injured running back Lynell Hamilton. They added veteran Ladell Betts on Monday afternoon.

Betts immediately should fit into a backfield rotation with Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush. While Thomas and Bush likely will share the bulk of the carries, Betts likely will take on the role of the big back and get some carries in goal-line and short-yardage situations.

Betts previously had worked out for the Saints and chose their offer over interest from Houston, San Francisco and Denver. His one-year contract is for $755,000, but he could earn up to $1 million if he reaches certain incentives.

Fantasy Impact:

As the article indicated, Betts could jump right in and see goal line carries and be in the rotation with Bush and Thomas. However, Betts is 30 years old and only marginally larger than Pierre Thomas. Betts is a downgrade from the injured Lynell Hamilton. This signing shouldn't hurt the value of Thomas or Bush significantly.
