Pierre Thomas might be out rest of preseason

Sean Payton addressed Pierre Thomas' situation after practice Thursday.
New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said there is a chance that a lingering knee injury will sideline running back Pierre Thomas for the team's exhibition game against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 3 at the Superdome.

Thomas, who suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee against the Houston Texans, already has been ruled out of Saturday's exhibition game against the Oakland Raiders at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Payton addressed Thomas' situation after practice Thursday.

"I'm not as concerned other than the snaps he's missing,'' Payton said. "I think he's going to recover fully. So I don't think it's going to be an ongoing season problem for him. It's just going to take a week and a half here. We may or may not be able to play him against Miami but I'm confident of the type of injury he has that it's going to heal properly and not be something that drags on. So that's the good news.''
