The Chiefs started offseason practice Monday without two starting players, guard Brian Waters and LB Mike Vrabel. Waters asked to be traded or released after a February meeting with coach Todd Haley. Nor was Vrabel’s absence a surprise since he skipped a minicamp last month. The reasons for his absence aren’t as clear as they are for Waters. “We had 83 guys here, which was excellent considering (the practices) are voluntary,” Haley said. “I’m not going to talk about who’s here and who’s not here. This is all voluntary. "We’d like everybody here, but those who weren’t here are not a surprise to any of us. I feel comfortable with where we’re at with those guys.” Also missing was 4th-round draft pick Donald Washington, who is barred from practicing under NFL rules because his class at Ohio State has yet to graduate. Washington won’t be eligible to join the Chiefs until next month, after a mandatory minicamp.
