Eagles QB Jalen Hurts looking faster at camp

Quarterback Jalen Hurts' speed has been standing out at Eagles' training camp, and members of the defense are taking notice.

"I think Jalen's having a good camp. I think he looks faster," said defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. "Obviously we can't touch him during practice so there's always that debate whether you had him or not [for a sack] and I think there's been a few times where our guys think they had him and they really didn't."

Fantasy Impact:

As the story pointed out, Hurts has been a force in the running game for years, racking up 3,554 yards and 63 touchdowns on the ground over six NFL seasons. But last season, he had the fewest rushing attempts (105), yards (421) and touchdowns (8) in a season since he became the full-time starter in 2021. He also wasn't passing the eye test, and appeared to be slow and unsure at times when it looked like he was about to take off. Any improvement in Hurts' rushing numbers over last year will add value to his fantasy worth this season. He's ranked fifth on our QB list heading into drafts.

Good news for Dobbins, who left early yesterday in practice after it was reported he suffered a soft tissue injury. It came out later Monday that Dobbins was expected to be "fine," but seeing him right back on the field today is a relief for owners and future owners.

"At least this week," seems to open the door to a longer period of time, but that remains to be seen. Jacobs' missed time will open the door for Lloyd and Brooks to get more touches in camp and perhaps even an increased workload when the regular season starts. Those who follow the team keep saying this is a chance for Lloyd to step up and show what he can do, after missing significant time himself in his brief career. As we creep closer to draft day, drafting Lloyd seems like a good idea if you're a Jacobs owner.

Minnesota has named Kyler Murray its starting quarterback, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Impact:

Murray, the No. 1 pick of the 2019 draft, signed a one-year deal with Minnesota in the offseason with the thought of earning the starting role over J.J. McCarthy. That has now happened before the first preseason game, setting up Murray to take all of the starters’ reps over the next month in preparation for the regular season, the story went on to point out.

From a fantasy standpoint, Murray is in a great situation with HC Kevin O'Connell, and a supporting cast that blows away anything he had in Arizona. Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Jauan Jennings, T.J. Hockenson, and Aaron Jones combine to form one of the deepest receiving groups in the league, and O'Connell has proven he can build an offense around his quarterback's strengths. The rushing remains elite for fantasy purposes: Murray averaged 35.0 yards per start on the ground last season, and that kind of dual-threat ability in O'Connell's system is a dangerous combination. The elephant in the room is durability. Murray has missed an average of 6.8 games per season over the last four years, and that's not a blip, it's a pattern. Murray makes for a nice QB2 option but we suggest a backup plan if you draft him.
