NFL Spread and O/U Picks: Hunter's Week 6 Best Bets
Week 5 featured some free lessons in how to NOT win games. From the early game in London, where the Eagles had three plays to burn the final Jaguars timeout and elected to throw on first down and run out of bounds on the second down, stopping the clock themselves in both cases. In the end, the Jags had one second left on the clock after a long return to kick the game-winner. The Monday nighter had the Rams, whose offense could not be stopped all second half, try to settle for a field goal from just a few yards shy of their kicker’s career-long!
Neither of which, however, even came close to the absolute nightmare the Commanders (and to a lesser degree the Giants) had in the rain on the East Coast. In that absolute debacle, Jayden Daniels decided to not throw the ball away with no timeouts remaining, and his subsequent lack of hurry to spike the ball again likely dug the grave of Dan Quinn’s head coaching career. Will he be the first coach fired? Maybe. Maybe not. But it's incredibly hard to see him being with the team again in 2027.
Week 5 recap: 5-3 for -3.28 units. We won the only big play of the week, and really all three wins this week were never in doubt. However, the Seahawks/49ers game had SEVEN(!!!) scoring drives of under 35 yards, 5 of which were touchdowns. My true score was 18-17. That was the difference between a winning and losing week. Sides continue to tumble, which is very odd compared to my historical records.
2026 Year to Date:
- Sides: 7-12 -10.43 Units
- Totals: 9-9-1 -1.1 Units
- Overall: 16-21-1 -11.53 Units
