Picking eighth in a 12-team ESPN league puts us right around the first meaningful tier break, but full-PPR scoring gives us a pretty straightforward way to attack it. If the elite running backs don’t fall, we can lean into high-volume receivers, stay flexible through the next few rounds, and use ESPN’s default rankings to our advantage when some of our preferred targets are buried further down the board.
In this article, I walk through my favorite likely available targets each round based on ESPN ADP via 4for4’s Multi-Site ADP tool, with a discussion on strategy from this spot.

My Plan When Drafting 8th in a 12-Team League
Roster Settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, seven bench spots
- Picking eighth means the opening tier will likely determine the build more than any predetermined positional strategy.
- Full-PPR scoring makes target volume even more important, so I’m perfectly comfortable opening WR if the elite running backs are gone.
- If a strong three-down running back falls in Round 2, I’d like to establish an Anchor RB and then continue attacking receivers.
- ESPN has some significant discrepancies from broader market ADP, so we don’t have to blindly follow the default queue when one of our preferred players sits much lower.
- I’m comfortable leaving the first five rounds with only one running back if we’ve built a strong WR room.
- Tight end is price-dependent. I won’t force Brock Bowers or Trey McBride, but the Warren/Kraft/Pitts/LaPorta range is worth attacking when value falls.
- Quarterback can wait unless one of the higher-ceiling options slides well beyond expectation.
- We will be ignoring defense and kickers until the final two rounds (15 & 16) every single time.
