The Sunday Night Football level-up continues this week as two of the NFC’s contenders square off in Los Angeles, where NFL MVP candidate Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams play host to the Buccaneers. Both teams have battled through a plethora of injuries to elite players this season and have come out on the other end relatively unscathed. The Bucs expect to have Chris Godwin back this week, adding a bit of ambiguity in terms of how roles will shift.

How I Plan to Beat the Field This Week

For showdown daily fantasy football slates, it’s critical to find ways to differentiate your lineup pools from the overall contest entry pool. Minimizing duplication and correlation with the field’s lineups is key. Diversification is also an important factor in smoothing out what is an exceptionally high-variance format. These are my first considerations when I build lineups, and I try to use these levers as I manage my overall entry portfolio.

The SNF game this week has a high Vegas total and a wider spread than most would likely anticipate at first glance. For the most part, the pricing seems relatively efficient, and while there is some ambiguity in the Bucs’ offense due to the return of Chris Godwin, it’s not obvious where the most exploitable opportunities are as a result. If anything, his return seems more likely to depress fantasy scoring upside across the board than to create a clear value.

I am going to prioritize onslaught lineups this week; it feels like a great slate to do so. With relative parity in the pricing structure, I think the edge is more likely to come from heuristic lineup-construction differentiation than from locking in a single player with massive value relative to ownership. On almost any slate, there are a bevy of underowned, high-sim-ROI onslaught lineups that players can build.
