Streaming Tight Ends: Week 1 Targets

Are you bummed with how your roster turned out in the tight end department, or perhaps you had streaming in mind when constructing your teams this draft season? Either way, I have you covered. As a strategy, streaming aims to find players with above-average matchups, which can hopefully translate to fantasy TE1 production for your fantasy squad.

For streaming purposes, 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed (aFPA) is a metric we rely heavily on to determine weekly matchup strength. Since aFPA requires a minimum of three-to-four weeks of data to provide truly reliable results, in these early weeks, streaming options will be selected based on a combination of metrics, along with last season’s numbers. 4for4 rankings also come into play here and should always be considered when making league-specific roster decisions.

The goal is to roster a player who will return starter fantasy points. Last year, this methodology did just that—as 4for4’s optimal streamer scored 251.1 total PPR points in 2019, which equated to the overall TE2 numbers on the season.

In order to provide advice you can actually implement, candidates for streaming must be rostered in no more than 40% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues.

Top Streaming Picks

Eric Ebron (Steelers) @ Giants

There are many of you out there who have been burned by Eric Ebron, possibly on more than one occasion. However, in fantasy football, we have to be able to forgive and forget. Or at least try to. Now in Pittsburgh, Ebron is in a great place to produce, especially in a Week 1 contest against the Giants. Their defensive unit ranked 29th last season against opposing tight ends, yielding 11.7 half-PPR aFPA per game to the position.

Beat writers have been impressed with the 27-year-old Ebron's performance in camp thus far, indicating he’s stood out on one-on-one routes and could be used all over the field as a “mismatch chess piece”. Ebron was only drafted by 32% of Yahoo! managers, so put in a claim for him now if you’re in need of tight end help to start the season.

Jack Doyle (Colts) @ Jaguars
