Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 5 Targets
Week 4 was good to QB streamers, almost across the board, and we were no exception. Our top two streaming options, Brian Hoyer and Joe Flacco, averaged nearly 24 points, and our third, Trevor Siemian, was on pace for a similar total before his injury. (He finished with 8.7 points.)
On the season, our optimal streaming QB is scoring 25.2 points, good enough for QB5 overall. Our streaming choices have scored 20.6 points, on average, through four weeks if we exclude Siemian’s injury-shortened game last week. That works out to QB14. One PPG separates us from QB10. If we include Siemian, we are at 19.59 points per game.
Again, not too bad. If I’m being honest, I am thrilled with our results through four weeks. Remember, these are QBs we could get for free or nearly free in most leagues, so we are putting up these results with no cost to owners. We’re one quarter of the way through the 2016 fantasy season, which means there is plenty more to go. Let’s see if we can keep the production rolling.
As before, I focus on QB points per game and the Vegas implied team totals to determine good QB streamers, then I add in their matchup for the week. For opposing defenses, we utilize Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points allowed (aFPA).
Week 5 QB Streaming Targets
Carson Wentz (PHI) @ DET
Carson Wentz, rookie phenom, comes off a bye week and extra time to prepare, and he gets an optimal matchup in the Lions. Wentz hasn’t looked like a rookie through most of this season, and I expect he will do well with the extra week to gameplan. The Lions are giving up 26.4 aFPA to opposing QBs -- worst in the league -- and the Eagles currently have a reasonably high 24.25 implied team total. Quite frankly, I was shocked to see Wentz was available in two-thirds of all leagues.
Wentz is available in 66% of ESPN public leagues, and he is my optimal streaming QB of the week.
