Scouting report

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs Tennessee Titans

Zach Ertz has been a consistent, though mostly unexciting, performer for the Commanders this season. He’s the TE13 in Half PPR points per game and has averaged 8.7 points per game over his last four. He should be able to continue pumping out points at that level this week, given his solid weekly workload and the Titans ranked 15th in aFPA to tight ends. Expect a high-end TE2 week from the wily veteran.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs Dallas Cowboys

Zach Ertz has been solid and reliable, if not particularly exciting, in 2024, and over the last four weeks has averaged a respectable 8.3 Half-PPR points per game. He’s the TE15 for the season in points per game. He doesn’t have a great matchup against the Cowboys, who rank eighth in aFPA to tight ends this season. But he has a safe weekly floor, and with six teams on a bye this week it’s not too much of a stretch to project low-end TE1 numbers from the veteran.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Philadelphia Eagles

Zach Ertz ranks second all-time for the Eagles in receptions and fourth in receiving yards, a testament to his time as the focal point of the Eagles' passing game. Those days are in the past and while Ertz has been a steady performer in 2024, sitting at TE20 in Half-PPR points per game, this is about as high as we can expect him to be when all is said and done in Week 11. The Eagles rank first in aFPA to tight ends this season, which leads to our projecting Ertz as a low-end TE2 option this week.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Zach Ertz was quiet last week, which was unwelcome but not entirely unexpected. Ertz hasn't exactly been loud this season, with 6.6 Half-PPR points per game at the TE18 spot, but he has offered something of a safe floor. He should be able to return to his floor levels against a Steelers team that hasn't been at it's best against tight ends, as evidenced by their ranking of 22nd in aFPA to the position. Still, it's hard to expect more than mid-tier TE2 numbers for Ertz this week.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs Chicago Bears

Zach Ertz continues to do just enough to be fantasy relevant in 2024, averaging 6.8 Half-PPR points per game. He was the TE9 a week ago and sits at TE14 in points per game. The Bears, the Commanders opponents in Week 8, rank 19th in aPFA to tight ends this season. But whether Ertz can recreate his role as Jayden Daniel’s safety valve to that of Marcus Mariota’s is the big question. Ertz should be treated as a low-end TE2 in Week 8.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs Carolina Panthers

It’s not flashy, but Zach Ertz is doing Yeoman work at the tight end spot in 2024. Ertz is the TE17 for the season in points per game, but he was the TE10 a week ago with 8.8 Half-PPR points. He’s running all the routes, which is pretty much all we can ask for any player outside the elite tier at the position.

Ertz remains a viable streaming option at tight end heading into Week 7. The Panthers rank 19th in aFPA to tight ends this season, and with Ertz operating as Jayden Daniels’ safety valve he should be able to produce low-end TE1 numbers this week.

WAS TE Zach Ertz - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Baltimore Ravens

Zach Ertz hasn’t exactly blown anyone away this season, but he is among the league leaders in routes run at the tight end position, and to his credit he has (except for Week 5) caught most of the balls sent his way. He’s only averaging 5.3 Half PPR points per game though, but this is still good for TE16.

The Ravens have allowed league highs in receptions and receiving yards to tight ends this season and are ranked 21st in aFPA to tight ends. If game script goes south for the Commanders and Jayden Daniels is forced to take to the air more often than normal, then Ertz could be in for a bigger day than he’s enjoyed previously in 2024. But from a baseline standpoint, he’s hard to trust above a mid-tier TE2.
