Scouting report

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. New Orleans Saints

Kyler Murray had only 222 yards and an interception against the Seahawks last week in a disappointing game for both offenses. The Cardinals also suffered their fourth loss of the season, although Murray salvaged his fantasy day with 100 yards on 10 rush attempts. Murray is always a threat to supplement his passing numbers with rushing production, so he’ll never fall too far down the rankings as long as he stays healthy.

Murray should get on track this week against the Saints. New Orleans ranks 22nd in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks and while Murray will miss his old college teammate Marquise Brown, he’ll welcome back DeAndre Hopkins to lineup. Murray was better with Hopkins in the lineup a year ago, and they’ll look to rekindle some of that magic in Week 7. Start him.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Seattle Seahawks

Kyler Murray had a decent enough game against the Eagles last week, throwing for 250 yards, a touchdown, and a pick, but adding 42 yards on the ground. Murray now has eight touchdowns – including two rushing – and three interceptions and stands as the QB5 in fantasy points this year.

Murray should do well against the Seahawks this week. Seattle ranks 29th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks, and the game could end up being a shootout behind the surprising play of Geno Smith. If these two offenses get humming, Murray could post 300+ passing yards for just the second time this year. Start him.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Kyler Murray isn’t off to the blistering start he had last year at this time, but he’s quietly going about his business and is the QB6 in fantasy right now. Last week, he had 207 passing yards to go with a pair of touchdowns and an interception, but he also had his second rushing touchdown of the year. He’s had at least 26 rushing yards in all but one game this year, giving him a nice fantasy floor in most contests.

This week, Murray faces an Eagles defense that ranks second in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks this season. While the matchup is concerning, this game could feature a lot of passing for the Cardinals as they try to keep up with the high-octane Philadelphia offense. As such, Murray’s volume may increase, giving him upside. We have him ranked inside our top-10 quarterbacks this week, and he should remain active in all leagues.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Carolina Panthers

Kyler Murray had 314 yards last week against the Rams, but failed to find the end zone and only rushed for eight yards on two attempts. Those numbers need to get better for Murray to be worth his lofty draft capital in fantasy leagues, though he’s faced some decent teams thus far. The Rams have a solid defense, the Giants have been feistier than expected, and the Chiefs look better on that side of the ball as well.

This week, Murray faces another defense that has been better than advertised. They’ve mostly held opposing quarterbacks in check, though Murray is much more talented than the trio of Jacoby Brissett, Jameis Winston, and Daniel Jones they’ve faced thus far. Start Murray in all leagues, expecting him to find the end zone a bit more, but temper expectations against a team allowing 19.7 points per game – T-13th in the league.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Kyler Murray had a nice day against the Raiders last week, throwing for 277 yards, a touchdown, and a pick in a comeback victory. He added 28 yards and a touchdown on five rush attempts, and it was good to see him getting back to running the ball a bit more. Murray’s dual-threat ability in this offense is what makes him a top-notch fantasy option.

This week, Murray faces a Rams’ defense that was torched by the Bills in Week 1 and almost allowed a comeback win to the Falcons last Sunday. Murray had quality fantasy numbers in both regular season games against the Rams last year – although he was destroyed by them in the playoffs. Expect a high-scoring affair and Murray to do enough combined work through the air and with his legs to put up quality QB1 numbers. Start him.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Las Vegas Raiders

Kyler Murray threw for a pair of garbage-time touchdowns last week in a blowout loss to the Chiefs. He finished with 193 yards passing, and another 29 on the ground to go with the pair of late scores and an overall underwhelming fantasy day.

Look for Murray to get on track this week against the Raiders in what could be a shootout. Las Vegas allowed three touchdown passes to Justin Herbert last week and Murray’s five rushing attempts are encouraging. His ability to supplement his passing stats with points on the ground make him a valuable starting quarterback in all league formats, and we have him ranked just outside our top-five this week. Start him.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Kyler Murray was the QB10 last year, but was the QB4 in fantasy points per game. He missed three games with injury, but still managed 24 passing and five rushing touchdowns on his way to his second consecutive Pro Bowl. If healthy, Murray has tremendous rushing upside – 1,786 rushing yards over his first three seasons – making him a clear set-it-and-forget-it option at the position.

Murray should be able to kick off his new contract in style against a Chiefs defense that ranked 28th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks last season. This game has the potential to be a shootout, which should benefit everyone involved. Couple that with Murray’s rushing potential, and you have a bonafide, must-start, QB1 option. Start him.
