Lewis: Bengals RB Giovani Bernard won't play Thursday night

NFL.com

Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis told SiriusXM NFL Radio's Ross Tucker that the second-year running back won't play against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football because of the hip and shoulder injuries that kept him out of practice all week. Bernard is officially listed as doubtful after missing Sunday's win over the Jaguars.

His absence means that rookie Jeremy Hill will carry the load for a second straight week after piling up 154 yards and two touchdowns off 24 carries against Jacksonville.

Fantasy Impact:

Bernard is listed as doubtful, so we were assuming he wouldn't play, but Lewis confirmed it. Jeremy Hill is a top five option against a shaky Browns rush defense.

Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (hip, doubtful) did not practice Wednesday. Bernard is not expected to play on Thursday night, which means Jeremy Hill will be a great option against a Browns defense that has struggled to stop the run.

Giovani Bernard doesn't practice Tuesday

Bengals running back Giovani Bernard did not practice on Tuesday - leaving it highly unlikely he will play in Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Browns.

Bernard is bothered by a hip pointer and clavicle injury that prevented him from practicing last week and from playing in this past Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Impact:

We had a report Monday from a Cincy beat reporter who didn't think Bernard would play, and that's certainly continues holding true to form. Jeremy Hill shapes up to be a great start against a weak Cleveland rush defense.

Bengals Beat: Giovani Bernard (hip) won't play Week 10

Paul Dehner Jr. on Twitter

Nov 03, 2014 · 12:49 PM EST

Bengals beat writer Paul Dehner Jr.replied "won't happen" when asked if Cincy RB Giovani Bernard would play in Week 10.

Fantasy Impact:

It's a short week so the game is Thursday night at home against Cleveland. It's shaping up to be a great matchup and if Dehner's reply about Bernard is true, it may be another huge week for Jeremy Hill, who would again fill in for Bernard. Coming into Week 9, Cleveland was ranked 28th in allowing fantasy points to RBs.
