Scouting report

BUF RB James Cook - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. New England Patriots
James Cook has 20+ carries in each of the last two games. Last week, he rushed for 70 yards. However, he was held without a catch for only the second time this season. So after monster Week 15, Cook's production was back to lower numbers, but still favorable.

Cook faces the Patriots who have a good run defense. The Pats are ranked eighth in aFPA to running backs. Cook had 102 total yards from scrimmage which was evenly balanced in the running and passing game.

Start Cook for Week 17 as a solid RB1. He should continue to get around 20 touches and the production will be adequate to be your No. 1 running back this week.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Los Angeles Chargers
James Cook had career-highs across the board with 25 carries for 179 yards. He ended up the day with 221 total yards and two touchdowns. Buffalo was able to run the ball at will and he definitely benefited from their dominance up front. Obviously, we don't expect numbers like that every week, but the usage of Cook in the offense has trended upward the second half of the season.

Next up is the Chargers who are ranked 26th in aFPA to running backs. Expect a total of 20 touches again for Cook and another good fantasy performance although not anything like the last game.

Start Cook as a top-five fantasy running back for Week 16 with a great matchup against the Chargers and his production in the last couple months.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Dallas Cowboys
James Cook had another game with 15+ touches that ended up getting him 141 total yards and a touchdown. It was a huge day in the passing game that pushed Cook to one of the best fantasy running back performances of last week as he had five receptions for 83 yards.

Cook faces Dallas who is ranked 12th in aFPA to running backs. The Cowboys defense has been decent over the last month, but not dominant, which should give Cook a good chance to put up solid fantasy numbers this Sunday.

Start Cook as a solid RB2 for Week 15. He probably won't get the receiving numbers he got last week, but should be close to 100-yard mark overall as long as he continues to get a minimum of 15 touches.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Kansas City Chiefs
After getting less carries for a short stretch in the midseason for James Cook, he has had 33 over the last two games for 106 yards. It appears the Bills have gone back to him as their primary back even though he still playing less than 50% of the snaps.

Cook faces Kansas City who is ranked 18th in aFPA to running backs. If he gets the touches like he has been the past couple games, he should have good fantasy numbers.

Start Cook as a low-end RB2 for Week 14. Bills and Chiefs should have good offensive days so the skill players like Cook should benefit.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Philadelphia Eagles
James Cook tied a season-high with 17 carries and ended up with 102 total yards. The strange thing was he only played 46% of the snaps, but when he was on the field, he was very involved. Cook also scored a receiving touchdown.

It will be a tough task this week as the Bills face Philadelphia. The Eagles are ranked No. 1 in aFPA to running backs. Teams have had more success throwing the ball against Philly and we know Buffalo likes to throw.

Start Cook as an RB3 or Flex for Week 12. Expect 12-15 carries, but the production will be low considering the tough matchup.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. New York Jets
The good news is James Cook had 14 touches which produced 109 rushing yards and an additional 11 receiving yards. The bad news is he went to the bench after fumbling twice, They were his first two turnovers of the season, so we don't think Cook will be in the doghouse. But Cook has veteran Latavius Murray right behind him if he slips up again.

Cook faces the Jets who are ranked 24th in aFPA to running backs. In the season opener, he had 16 touches for 52 yards against New York so with a favorable matchup and carries, we expect him to be a factor in this game.

Start Cook as a low-end RB2 for Week 11. Last game was his second 100+ rushing yard game of the season, but although we don't expect him to be in that territory this week, his numbers will be serviceable.

BUF RB James Cook - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Denver Broncos
James Cook had a streak of three straight games with 13+ carries. He did manage four receptions to help his managers in PPR leagues but it was a down game with only 39 total yards and zero touchdowns. He has only one touchdown on the season.

Cook faces the Broncos who are ranked dead last in the NFL in aFPA to running backs. His touches need to go back up and that should give him some fantasy relevance.

Start Cook as an RB2 for Week 10 at home on Sunday. With the favorable matchup, expect Buffalo to get back to running the ball more and that should help Cook's numbers.
