Steelers sign K Garrett Hartley

The Steelers have replaced injured kicker Shaun Suisham with a player with plenty of experience in big moments.

The agent for Garrett Hartley announced Tuesday that the former New Orleans Saints kicker has agreed to terms with the Steelers. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported it's a 1-year deal.

Hartley kicked three clutch field goals in the Super Bowl five years ago, and is a perfect 8-for-8 in postseason games. Suisham will miss the season with a torn ACL.

Fantasy Impact: 

Hartley was inconsistent in his final seasons with the Saints, eventually getting cut at the end of 2013. He has been mostly out of the league since, active for two games last season for the Browns. Hartley has hit on 81.7 percent of his kicks as a pro, so it was only a matter of time before he got another chance. After spending most of his career in a dome, he'll kick in one of the toughest environments in the league in Pittsburgh. He'll still be an attractive add to fantasy teams given the high-powered potential of a Steelers offense that wants to score 30 points a game.

Browns waive K Billy Cundiff; sign Garrett Hartley

Billy Cundiff practiced inside FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday, working on his mechanics and hoping to snap out of his recent funk.

He won't play there Sunday.

The Browns waived the slumping kicker Saturday and replaced him with veteran Garrett Hartley, who will likely kick against the AFC North-leading Cincinnati Bengals.

Cundiff's release comes a week after he missed a 40-yarder in a one-point loss to Indianapolis and following two days in which he kicked well in practice before injuring his knee.

Fantasy Impact: 

Cundiff missed Friday's practice and coach Mike Pettine said the 34-year-old veteran had injured himself the previous day, the story said. Cundiff refused to discuss his injury, deferring all questions about his status to Pettine. Although Cundiff had a sleeve on his left leg, the Browns said on their injury report he hurt his right knee.

Kicker Garrett Hartley worked out for the Saints this week, according to ESPN.

Shayne Graham, who was signed to replace Hartley last year, has been mostly solid. He's made 18-of-20 field goals this season and was the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month in October.

Graham, who just turned 37, missed a 42-yarder in a 41-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, which drew the ire of Sean Payton on the sideline.

Hartley tweeted that he was in New Orleans on Tuesday night, but also cautioned fans not to read into it. How much interest the Saints have in Hartley, or whether his tryout is intended to be a message to Graham, is unknown.

Fantasy Impact: 

This serves as a heads up for Shayne Graham owners. He may not be on solid footing heading into the stretch run.
