TB RB Bucky Irving - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Bucky Irving saw nine carries in Week 8, one fewer than the returning Rachaad White. He had just 23 yards on the ground but did score a touchdown and added 54 yards on three catches. The Bucs also mix Sean Tucker as well, so this is a true committee, but Irving has enough juice to be a deep flex option against the Falcons, whom he totaled 56 yards against on 11 touches in Week 5.

Week 6 at New Orleans Saints

Bucky Irving had already carved out a nice role for himself with Rachaad White on the field. Now, it looks like White will be out due to injury, meaning Irving will be the guy against the Saints. Irving has shown to be a strong runner and has a chance to do very well with more work. He does have a tough matchup. The Saints are allowing the 7th-fewest rushing yards per game. But the talent and volume Irving is expected to get make him a strong RB2 option this week.

Week 5 at Atlanta Falcons

Bucky Irving has played his way into almost an even-split workload with Rachaad White. Irving and White each had 10 carries against the Eagles. Irving also had four rushes inside the ten and scored a touchdown. Irving has almost the same fantasy value now as Rachaad White and both can be considered flex options against the Falcons Thursday.

Week 4 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Bucky Irving had more rushing yards in Week 3 (70) than Rachaad White had in the first three weeks combined (66). Irving is quickly closing the gap between he and White and if White doesn't find his groove soon, Irving may very well be the lead back in Tampa sooner rather than later. He's still a deep flex play, but perhaps not for much longer.

The rookie Bucky Irving saw nine carries and actually had double the number of rushing yards as Rachaad White in Week 1 (62-31). That said, some of that work, including half of his rushing yards, came while the Buccaneers held a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter. Fantasy Upside

Bucky Irving has a chance to see some work as a rookie after the Bucs took him in the fourth round of April's draft. Last season at Oregon, Irving rushed 186 times for 1,180 yards (6.3 yards per carry) and 11 touchdowns. He also caught 56 passes for 413 yards and two touchdowns.

Fantasy Downside

Irving is still competing with Chase Edmonds for the RB2 role. Even if he wins the RB2 role, he'll be behind Rachaad White, who figures to see plenty of work again after his 336-touch season in 2023.

2024 Bottom Line

Irving could be sprinkled into the offense thanks to his elusiveness and ability to break tackles. But at most, he's a handcuff to White. If White is out, Irving could have some flex appeal.
