Anthony Gonzalez Suffers Setback

When Colts receiver Anthony Gonzalez suffered a knee injury during Week 1 of the 2009 season, in his first game as the heir to Marvin Harrison, no one knew when he'd be back.

He missed the rest of the season, along with the playoffs. And according to WISH-TV (via our friend Bradley Wells a/k/a BigBlueShoe a/k/a Guys Who Rips Me Mercilessly At Times But Curiously We're Friends of StampedeBlue.com), Gonzalez suffered a "setback" last Tuesday, which caused him to miss the team's recent mandatory minicamp.

A first-round draft pick in 2007, Gonzalez faces an uphill climb to return to the starting lineup, given the performances of players like Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon.

Fantasy Impact: 

Not a major concern for the Colts given the progress of Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie. However, there's no timetable for Gonzalez' return. Clearly his role in the starting offense and possible roster spot could be in jeopardy.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez has been missing practice. The team hasn't given a reason why.

Fantasy Impact: 

This won't help Gonzalez return to fantasy prominence. He's got an uphill battle to regain a large role in the Indianapolis offense after the emergence of Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon. Gonzalez needs to prove he's healthy to have a fighting chance, and right now fantasy owners have no reason to hold him in high regard.

The Indianapolis Colts appear to have their health as they go through the next phase of their offseason program.

Safety Bob Sanders and WR Anthony Gonzalez were among the players participating in the second of nine organized team activities (OTAs) Thursday at the team’s West 56th Street complex.

Sanders suffered a season-ending biceps injury against San Francisco Nov. 1 while Gonzalez sustained what proved to be a season-ending injury to his right knee in the team’s Sept. 13 opener against Jacksonville. Sanders was not made available to the media today, but Gonzalez insisted he was as close to 100 percent as he’s likely to be.

And that included K Adam Vinatieri. The team’s veteran place-kicker was limited to six games in 2009 after undergoing surgery on his right hip and right knee.

Mike Chappell reports that every indication is that S Bob Sanders and WR Anthony Gonzalez are on schedule with their rehabs. He's not certain if each will be medically cleared for 100-percent participation in training camp, but he expects them to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Fantasy Impact: 

Gonzalez will probably have some work to do since WR Austin Collie and WR Pierre Garcon had nice seasons last year. Garcon had 151 receiving yards in the conference championship and 66 in the Super Bowl, with TDs in both.
