Arians: Cardinals RB Andre Ellington has 'severe' hip-pointer, game-time decision

Cardinals beat writer Alex Marvez: RB Andre Ellington has "severe" hip-pointer, per HC Bruce Arians. Probably won't practice this week. The team hopes he can go against the Chiefs, but he will be a game-day decision.

Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com reports that "Marion Grice likely will be the first one in if Ellington cannot play, but Stepfan Taylor and Robert Hughes will be in the mix, Arians said."

Fantasy Impact: 

It's generally not a good sign if the head coach is talking about a game-time decision as early as Tuesday. Grice would be a decent desperation start against a mediocre Chiefs rush defense, but he's not likely to see a huge workload with Taylor, Hughes and possibly Michael Bush in the mix. Complicating matters, the Cardinals play in the late round of games on Sunday. Hopefully, we'll have some clarity on the situation by Saturday, but owners should not plan on having Ellington available in Week 14.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington said hip pointer is different than hip injury he's been dealing with. Thinks he'll be fine.

Fantasy Impact: 

It's tough to trust a player with this status for the following week, but it's at least a little good news Ellington thinks he'll be OK for Week 14. Fox's Mike Jurecki on Twitter said the injury isn't serious and Ellington could be back by this week or next week. Given how the Cards performed in a Week 13 loss, Arizona will really need Ellington to play. There isn't a whole lot behind Ellington to trust from a fantasy perspective, even going against a Chiefs defense that was gashed by Denver's C.J. Anderson in Week 13. Stepfan Taylor, Michael Bush and Marion Grice could possibly form a committee if Ellington can't play.

Arizona running back Andre Ellington aggravating a hip injury.

Ellington left the field slowly with 10:13 remaining in the second quarter. He had five carries for 12 yards before the injury. He had 10 carries for only 24 yards in the Cardinals' 19-3 loss to Seattle last week and was probable on Arizona's final injury report of the week with foot and hip injuries.

Fantasy Impact: 

Marion Grice had three catches for 24 yards and was the only other back to get carries - five for 16 yards as the Cards trailed early on in this contest. Stepfan Taylor ended up with a late TD. The team also signed Michael Bush last week but he was inactive for Week 13. We'll continue to monitor Ellington's status this week, but this was pretty much the last favorable matchup for Arizona RBs for the rest of the season. The team finishes with the Chiefs, Rams, Seahawks and 49ers to close the season and while the Chiefs ranked 15th, the Rams, Seahawks and 49ers are all in the top-five in allowing fantasy points to RBs.

Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (hip, foot, probable) took full practice reps on Friday after being limited earlier in the week and is probable for Week 13. Ellington is good to go for a nice matchup against the Falcons.
