Joe Thomas thinks Browns will name Brock Osweiler starting QB

After weeks of speculation, analysis and evaluation, the Browns’ quarterback competition is headed into its home stretch.

Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas believes it’s over — Brock Osweiler will start the season opener on Sept. 10 against Pittsburgh.

“I could be totally wrong,” Thomas said Wednesday. “I might be going out on a limb here, but I think they’re grooming Brock to be the starter in Week 1 based on what I’ve seen.”

Fantasy Impact:

This is obviously just Thomas' opinion but he does see what's going on on a daily basis. The story said Osweiler is expected to start a second-straight preseason game Monday night. The story also says Thomas and head coach Hue Jackson are usually on the same page and Jackson will consult Thomas on major decisions.

The Eagles and star WR A.J. Brown agreed to terms on a new 3-year extension for $96M, the highest for any WR in NFL history. He’s now under contract through 2029 & his total guarantee of $84M is also the highest.

The Eagles are not messing around with their top two receivers, inking this deal just 10 days after locking in DeVonta Smith. Jalen Hurts remains insulated with high-level talent.

The Lions have a deal for one of the top young talents. They agreed on an extension for WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. He gets four years and more than $120M, with $77M guaranteed.

Fantasy Impact:

Good move for the Lions, who lock in their No. 1 pass-catching option. They will still likely address the position in the NFL Draft, but that shouldn't impact St. Brown.

Fantasy Impact:

It's hard to picture this prohibiting the team from taking a QB in the NFL Draft but it certainly insulates them a little bit if they end up unable to move up where they want. Wilson's dynasty SuperFlex value will at least improve in the short term.
