Steelers WR Sweed has Achilles surgery, status unknown

Steelers wide receiver Limas Sweed had surgery today to repair a torn or ruptured Achilles tendon.

The injury occurred to Sweed Sunday during the Steelers' final minicamp practice, which was held in their indoor facility.

The team confirmed the surgery but did not release the specific repair or injury. Coach Mike Tomlin disclosed it as an Achilles tendon injury on Sunday.

According to, a person with such an injury will miss four to six months of activity, however, "With motivation and rigorous physical therapy, elite athletes may return to athletics as early as 3 months after injury."
