Chargers WR Robert Meachem confirmed Tuesday he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after last season.
But it won't slow him down for the next one, he says.
In late January, Meachem had a minor procedure performed on his right knee, the same that was surgically repaired before his 2007 rookie season.
“I'm still young, so it doesn't concern me,” Meachem said. “I'm 27. I feel great. Just taking it day by day.”
Meachem, who signed a four-year deal with the Chargers in March, said he "banged" the knee Jan. 1 during the Saints' regular-season finale against the Panthers.
He didn't miss any action, catching four passes for 111 yards and a touchdown the next week versus the Lions. He had the knee scoped in the weeks following the Saints' Jan. 14 playoff elimination.
Knee scopes typically require 3-4 weeks of recovery and involve smoothing out the edges of rough cartilage to allow the joint to move more smoothly and become pain-free. We like Meachem's upside as the WR1 or WR1a in the San Diego offense, so this news is a great thing for fantasy owners to mention to their leaguemates on draft day to try to drive down his stock.
