The Cowboys traded for WR Roy Williams to become the next Terry Glenn, a complement to Owens. (Glenn had 70 receptions for 1,047 yards and 6 TDs as Owens’ sidekick in 2006.) But having cut Owens in March, the Cowboys now are counting on Williams to fill Owens’ cleats, with Patrick Crayton moving back into a starting role on the other side. But it’s catch as catch can, and Miles Austin, Sam Hurd and Isaiah Stanback will have a hand in replacing Owens’ numbers. Their potential is a reason the Cowboys didn’t draft a wideout until the 7th round, when they took Oklahoma’s Manuel Johnson. "I can’t worry about what the talk is about Terrell’s gone and who’s going to step up," Hurd said. "I’ve just got to go out there and prove that I’m able to step up when it’s my time." Cowboys owner Jerry Jones cited Austin, Hurd and Stanback in March when explaining his decision to release Owens, saying their "opportunity to play and help us was the biggest thing that impacted my decision." Jones has thrown them praise after praise after praise, especially Austin, whom he compared to a young Owens.
