Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan didn't offer any hopeful words on the status of tight end Chris Cooley, who was knocked out of Sunday's game with a concussion.
Cooley was not seen in the locker room following the game, and Shanahan said it was pretty obvious that the reliable tight end had his bell rung in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Colts.
"I knew just looking at him," Shanahan said. "You could tell that there was something wrong. I really don't know when it was. I just looked at him on the sideline and could tell that there was something wrong."
Cooley was taken to the locker room late in the third quarter and did not return. At the time of the injury, he led the Redskins with five receptions. (He finished the game with 37 yards.)
Shanahan might offer an update Monday, but with concussions, it typically takes several days before teams can offer anything meaningful about a player's prognosis.
Possibly making matters worse for Cooley: This is apparently not his first concussion. Cooley has said that he suffered at least three in college.
Fred Davis looks to be next in line, and proved last year when Cooley was injured he's a pretty solid play when getting a bigger workload.
