The Rams are waiving kicker Sam Ficken and signing Cairo Santos, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The job is temporary until Greg Zuerlein is ready to return, and the veteran kicker appears close to returning.
The Saints listed star wide receiver Michael Thomas as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to ankle and hamstring issues.
The concerning part of this news is the Saints listing Thomas as having picked up a hamstring injury. Thomas was set to return from his high-ankle sprain this week after being suspended in Week 6, but the new injury designation throws his status for the week into flux. The fact that Thomas still was able to participate in some fashion means he has a good chance to play, but hamstring issues are always tricky for receivers. Check back on Thursday to see if we get an update on Thomas's health.
Packers tight end Robert Tonyan missed Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury he suffered in Week 6.
Tonyan briefly left last week's game before returning but did not do much after the injury. The fact that Tonyan was able to finish Week 6 suggests today may be a rest/maintenance day for the tight end and he will practice later in the week. Check back Thursday for an update on his status.
Titans TE Jonnu Smith was able to practice in a limited fashion Wednesday after injuring his ankle in Week 6.
Smith had settled in as a solid TE1 before the injury as an explosive athlete after the catch getting targets from a red-hot Ryan Tannehill. Getting in a limited Wednesday practice is a promising sign that Smith should play this weekend against Pittsburgh. Whether he will be 100% is another question, and the Steelers defense has been one of the best in the league to this point. If Smith is active he should be started, but be warned he carries more risk than usual this week.
