Austin Collie's return from a concussion lasted less than a half. The Indianapolis Colts receiver started Sunday's game at New England, but didn't play beyond the second quarter after being involved in physical plays on multiple occasions.
Shortly after the game, Colts coach Jim Caldwell wouldn't classify Collie's setback as another concussion. But he said Collie -- who was taken off on a stretcher during the first half of a Nov. 7 loss at Philadelphia -- was removed from the game for "precautionary reasons."
Collie returned to practice on Wednesday. He was targeted for and caught Peyton Manning's first three passes, including a 28-yard reception on a deep seam post route. He finished with five catches for 60 yards
"He's going through something, obviously, through the course of this game that you can't simulate in practice," Caldwell said. "So they wanted to be cautious with him and I will find out the details later."
Caldwell said he wasn't certain whether Collie took any direct hits to the head, but acknowledged that it was a possibility.
"There were a couple plays, not just one," Caldwell said. "I mean, early on, he got hit pretty good a couple times."
Collie's replacement, Blair White, caught two TD passes and finished with five catches for 42 yards.
