Chris Cooley Out 4 Weeks

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said Chris Cooley visited a specialist but would not confirm that Cooley met with Andrews, who has performed surgeries on high-profile athletes from Brett Favre to Sam Bradford to Stephen Strasburg. Shanahan said surgery would not be required.

Andrews is a longtime partner with the Redskins and has worked closely with the team’s training staff for more than a decade.

“He’s getting some rehab on it,” Shanahan said. “He’s working extremely hard, but other than that, I don’t know. He can get some mental reps by looking at the film. We’ve got a lot of meeting time. He’ll probably be working in the weight room the majority of the time, but there’s no sense in putting added pressure on that knee.”

According to a person familiar with the situation, Cooley’s knee is simply aggravated and requires nearly a month of rest. Cooley, who had minor arthroscopic surgery on the knee following last season, has not attended practice since last Wednesday morning and was not on the sidelines for the team’s preseason win over Pittsburgh last Friday.

Fantasy Impact:

Fred Davis is having a great camp and is in fantastic shape. He is also in the final year of his contract. If you draft Cooley, Davis is the automatic handcuff....and possible starter.
