Andy Reid Press Conference: Michael Vick the starting QB for Eagles

Andy Reid Press Conference 8/21:

"Michael Vick will be the starting quarterback for the Eagles. I think his play has even exceeded expectation over the last two weeks."

"This has nothing to do with Kevin Kolb's injury. Kevin Kolb has done a phenomenal job for us. And the future of Kevin Kolb is not slighted by this one bit. He has an opportunity to be a... franchise quarterback and very deserving of so."

"Again this is more about Michael Vick and his excelerated play. He sat in there as possibly the hottest QB in NFL at this time and deserves the opportunity to play."

"This allows Kevin Kolb to continue his maturation process and become our franchise QB of the future."

"I have had the full support of the front office... The first person I met with on this decision was Kevin Kolb... I met with him the last two days and we shared thoughts. He's a young QB that I think the sky's the limit, he's just in a situation where a star QB has regained his ability. Michael Vick is playing out of his mind right now. I'm a lucky coach to have [both of these quarterbacks]. It's unbelievable."

Fantasy Impact:

The main takeaways from Andy Reid were that this decision was made because Michael Vick is playing at an extremely high level right now, and that Kevin Kolb is the QB of the future for the Eagles. Reid likes both QBs, but Vick is the man for now.

Reid didn't say so, but if Vick struggles the Eagles can always go back to Kolb.

Vick has a great matchup this week against Jacksonville, and looks like a top 10 QB moving forward with a lot of upside. Vick gets it done with his legs as well as through the air, the fantasy points should be there, even in down weeks.

We also like Desean Jackson & LeSean McCoy with this news. Jackson looked great last week with Vick under center, and McCoy could benefit much the way Chris Johnson benefited from Vince Young taking over for Kerry Collins last year (see last week's game for evidence on McCoy). Unfortunately for Brent Celek owners, Vick could mean less balls his way.
