Top New York Sports Events to Watch
As we get deeper into the winter, New Yorkers rely on their sports to get through the bleak months. The Knicks' buzzer-beater win over rival Celtics provided a spark. Can the other New York franchises help their loyal fans get through the dark days of January with some quality entertainment? Let's see what is on the horizon.
New York Sports Schedule
New York Knicks
- Saturday, January 8th - In this re-match, the Celtics are looking for revenge after the crazy ending at Madison Square Garden a few days ago.
- Monday, January 10th - The Knicks continue their weekly schedule versus San Antonio.
- Wednesday, January 12th - Dirk Nowitzki was recently honored in Dallas, so all the attention will be on taking down the Knicks.
- Saturday, January 15th - How will the Knicks fair against the Atlanta Hawks and Trae Young?
Brooklyn Nets
- Sunday, January 9th - The Nets seem to have recovered from their COVID-19 mess and will face the Spurs in the first of back-to-back games for the Spurs against New York teams.
- Monday, January 10th - The Nets have a long trip from New York up to Portland for a back-to-back set themselves.
- Wednesday, January 12th - The game of the month with playoffs home court implications versus the Bulls, who have the longest winning streak in the NBA. This is must-watch TV.
- Thursday, January 13th - Another back-to-back for the Nets taking on the Thunder. Is this a letdown spot after playing in Chicago the night before?
- Saturday, January 15th - The last game of the week is down in New Orleans. The Nets should take care of business in this spot.
New York Rangers
The New York Rangers play four games this week, including one on Saturday, January 8th against the Anaheim Ducks, followed by matchups versus the L.A. Kings on Monday, January 10th, the San Jose Shark on Thursday, January 13th and the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, January 15th.
New York Islanders
The New York Islanders will be lacing up the skates up against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, January 8th, then versus another Canadian club when they play the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, January 11th (the only New York game on Tuesday), followed by the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, January 13th and, lastly, they face Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Saturday, January 15th.
Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres will provide the least amount of entertainment (go figure) as they only have three games when they play the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday the 12th, the Nashville Predators on Thursday the 14th, and the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday the 15th.
What Else to Watch
The New York Giants and New York Jets both finish up their regular seasons tomorrow versus the Washington Football Team and the Buffalo Bills, respectively. We can start to dive into the NFL Draft and mock drafts starting Monday!
The Bills will be the football entertainment for New Yorkers as they hope to have a deep playoff run.
National Championship
On Monday, January 10th, we get a rematch of the SEC title game when Georgia takes on Alabama for one of the most evenly-matched National Championships in recent memory.
Hopefully, New Yorkers can enjoy this impressive slate of at least 24 games from our local franchises in the coming days.
