Perfect Fantasy Football Draft: 3rd in a 12-Team Yahoo Half-PPR League

I have a secret. In 12-team Yahoo half-PPR leagues ... I think the third overall pick might be the best spot in the draft. I won't spoil why — just yet — but if you've ended up at the 1.03, congratulations. This should be fun.
There are a couple major decision points to make at this spot. Particularly, whether to go running back or wide receiver in the first round. That decision tends to shift the tenor of your entire draft, so you need to make the best choice. And I'm here to help.
In this article, I will walk you through the ideal players to draft out of this position for every single round of the draft, using Yahoo ADP to guide the available candidates.

My Plan of Attack When Drafting 3rd in a 12-Team Half-PPR League
Roster Settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, 7 bench spots
As we noted above, the initial selection at 1.03 is going to have heavy implications for our roster construction over the next several rounds. If we go running back, we set ourselves up with a little more versatility — we can get a second RB at the two-three turn, double-tap WR, or even consider a tight end or quarterback. If we go wide receiver, we're likely committing to at least one running back at the two-three turn, unless we're willing to go relatively zero-RB, so it tightens the options a bit.
I don't think you can go horribly wrong either way, but ultimately, as I will explain in detail below, I prefer starting with a wide receiver. That's going to be the plan here.
