USFL Week 8: Best Bets

We are in the throes of the USFL betting season at 4for4, and with that comes my weekly betting article covering one of the football leagues vying for your eyeballs as we wait for the NFL to return.
Another product your eyeballs should be locked on during the USFL season is Run The Sims. 4for4 has partnered with RTS and is offering 10% off their products with the coupon code 4for4. 4for4 partnering with Run The Sims is the best partnership since Kirby Wilson and losing games.
Each week I write about lines, over/under, player props, and more of what I am betting. For more talk about USFL, check out 4for4’s Discord. Heading into Week 8, my picks are 13-9 (+3.3 units). It was a rough Week 7, but also the only week where I lost more than I won. Alas, we move on.

New Orleans Breakers vs. Birmingham Stallions (-3) (-110 DraftKings)
Birmingham continues to be the class of the USFL (7-0). The Stallions topped the Breakers by nine points in Week 3 and now face a New Orleans squad helmed by a struggling Kyle Sloter at quarterback. The Breakers are winning in spite of Sloter, not because of him Sloter. This game can also be won in the trenches. Birmingham is second in sack rate and yards per reception allowed because of pressure, while New Orleans ranks first in sack rate allowed.
For New Orleans to cover, the defense has to slow down running back Bo Scarbrough and get off the field. The Breakers' defense has the second-worst rush rate and pace of play allowed to opponents. That is a lot to ask when the Stallions are the home team every week.
New Orleans had two players pop up on the injury report due to illness. Back Ezra Gray and receiver Johnnie Dixon could be the only two to land there ahead of Saturday’s game, but their statuses and their teammates’ statuses, are important to watch.
Risk: 1.1 Units at DraftKings to Win 1 Unit. (Bet to -130 at -3)
Birmingham Stallions and Philadelphia Stars Moneyline Parlay (+119 DraftKings)
I already touched on the Stallions, so let’s focus on the Stars. Philly faces Michigan with one week under their belt in the post-Shea Patterson era. They are better off for it and almost upset the Breakers in Week 7. What the Breakers have lacked in consistent quarterback play, the Stars have received from Case Cookus. It also helps to have, arguably the most dynamic backfield in the USFL. Paul Terry is the most complete of the Stars trio, but any of the backs can contribute at any point of a drive.
The Panthers can run the ball on the Stars and will need to control the clock to cover and beat the Stars. That may be too much pressure for Panthers head coach Jeff Fisher, who amazingly had their punter double as the team’s field goal kicker for the first half of the season. Michigan should have three wins but have coached their way to too many losses.
Risk: 1 Unit at DraftKings to Win 1.19 Units.
Pittsburgh Maulers vs. New Jersey Generals (-8.5) (-110 FanDuel)
Jeff Fisher is happy Kirby Wilson is coaching in the USFL. Wilson is the worst coach in the league and found a way to make his best receiver, Bailey Gaither, useless in Week 7, having him run a route on 38% of passing plays. Pittsburgh has lost by 8+ points four times in their six losses, including a 21-13 loss to New Jersey on May 7. Since then, the Generals have been a better offensive team with Luis Perez and De'Andre Johnson under center. The Maulers continue to flounder and were lucky to catch lightning in a bottle with quarterback Vad Lee for one week.
Risk: 1.1 Units at FanDuel to Win 1 Unit. (Bet to -125)
