2022 PGA Championship Betting Preview
The second major of the 2022 season is upon us. The 104th PGA Championship will be held at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. One of the crown jewels of midwestern golf, Southern Hills is a uniquely classical championship golf course that recently underwent a major “historical restoration” to prepare it for this very moment. Considered one of the top 100 courses in the world, it has hosted 16 championships since 1945.
It should be a thrilling golf tournament with so many interesting factors coming into play. From the difficulty and unpredictability of the course, the potential effects of forecasted high winds, and the best golfers in the world competing against each other, there are almost too many storylines to keep track of this week. Has Tiger Woods recovered enough to contend for his 16th major? Can Scottie Scheffler continue his historically amazing stretch of golf? Can Jordan Spieth clinch the career Grand Slam? Will anyone even be under par by day’s end on Sunday? Thursday can’t come soon enough.
As is the case with most majors, the field is absolutely stacked. 47 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings are in attendance as part of the 156-player field. The biggest names who are not here this week for a variety of reasons include Harris English, Sungjae Im, Paul Casey, and Phil Mickelson. Tiger Woods has already arrived on the grounds of Southern Hills and claims he has only gotten stronger since his 47th place finish at the Masters.
The masterpiece that is Southern Hills was designed by renowned architect Perry Maxwell. While Southern Hills is his most notable original design, the “father of Oklahoma golf” also helped design Colonial Country Club and played a significant role in some of the renovations at Augusta National.
