FanDuel Thanksgiving Slate Breakdown

On a short slate like Thanksgiving, it’s usually wise to favor GPPs and avoid or limit cash games. With so few players on the slate, there is more overlap between lineups than on the main slate, which leads to much more variance—exactly what we are trying to avoid when grinding cash games. Those without much experience playing short slates should listen to the theory segment from Week 11’s DFS MVP, which discussed strategies for playing small-slate tournaments.

One of the more unique aspects of short slates is that there are leverage opportunities available at the “onesie” positions that don’t show up on full slates. Whereas positions such as quarterbacks rarely draw ownership above around 20% on full slates, the top value at the position may be on as many as 30%-40% of tournament rosters and upwards of 70-80% of cash lineups. This makes low-owned quarterbacks, tight ends, and defenses extremely valuable in terms of potential leverage.
