Trader's Alley: Week 9 Buy Low, Sell High, Hold
The flurry of high-profile trades that hit last week seemed like a precursor to what would be a wild, memorable trade deadline this week. Well, that was a lie. Despite some high-profile names reportedly being discussed, very few moves actually happened at the trade deadline, and hardly any impacted the fantasy world. Nevertheless, recent moves and games have created an NFL landscape ripe with opportunity to mine fantasy value. The fantasy trade deadline is looming as well (Week 12 in many leagues, be sure to check yours) so time is running out to bolster your squad for the playoffs via trade.
Below are my Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold recommendations heading into Week 9. As always, don’t forget to use the 4for4 Trade Evaluator to try and mine even more value out of your moves. And remember, these recommendations aren’t meant to be end-all, be-all decisions on players. I’m simply trying to highlight players who could help you come out ahead in fantasy trades.
Buy Low
RB – LeVeon Bell, New York Jets
Bell has appeared as a buy-low candidate before, so the fact that he’s still in this section of the column weeks later means that recommendation hasn’t paid of. Yet. I’m still holding out faith that Bell’s fantasy fortunes can turn around this season. The peripheral numbers are there. Bell is averaging 20 touches per game, he’s seen just shy of 20% of the team’s targets, and 86% of the backfield carries. Bell’s upcoming schedule is favorable, as he gets the Dolphins twice with the Giants, Redskins and Bengals (among others) in between. If there were ever a time for Bell to turn all of his usage into fantasy production … it’s now. Bell’s value is probably at its lowest point in the season, while his outlook arguably has never been better.
