Trader's Alley: Week 8 Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold
The trade tsunami hit the NFL this past week, with several big-name players jumping to new teams. Mohamed Sanu is now a Patriot. Emmanuel Sanders is now a 49er. And some defensive players changed teams as well, but that’s less important for a fantasy column than the first two. These moves have shifted the NFL and fantasy landscape, creating a new swath of trade opportunities, many of which I dive into in today’s column. In addition, there are a few unique situations I highlight below that could lead to some great trade value, but you’ll have to read on to find out more.
Below are my Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold recommendations heading into Week 8. As always, don’t forget to use the 4for4 Trade Evaluator to try and mine even more value out of your moves. And remember, these recommendations aren’t meant to be end-all, be-all decisions on players. I’m simply trying to highlight players who could help you come out ahead in fantasy trades.
Buy Low
WR – Calvin Ridley, Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons trading Mohamed Sanu will open up more opportunities in Atlanta, as the veteran-owned 14.4% of the team’s targets prior to being shipped to New England. One of the players who could benefit the most is Ridley, who owned a similar target share of 15.1%. Last week, I mentioned how Ridley could have been a sell-high candidate given his rollercoaster performances thus far, but now that Sanu’s gone that rollercoaster ride could be ending.
Ridley’s bye is in Week 10, and his late-season schedule is tough (two games against the Saints, one against the 49ers), so this isn’t a slam dunk move. However, the Falcons are a bad team and could remain pass-heavy outfit (they lead the league in pass attempts so far), so there’s a story you can tell yourself where Ridley surges in garbage time during the back half of the season.
