IDP Waiver Wire: Week 4 Targets
It’s that time of the week again to scour the waiver wire in a bid to prop up a disappointing performer or to plug a hole left by injury. After somewhat of a youth movement with last week’s recommendations we have another two rookies to add to the mix in Week 4, although there are some more seasoned veterans thrown in for good measure.
Jarrad Davis - Detroit Lions
A first-round selection for by Detroit in 2017, Lions fans and IDP gamers were hoping the heir to DeAndre Levy had arrived in the Motor City, but Davis hasn’t lived up to the hype or the LB1 projections. An underwhelming 96 total tackle rookie campaign was followed up with an improved 100 the following year, but it was his underlying splash plays (10 tackles for loss, six sacks) that indicated he could still have an impact for fantasy owners.
An ankle injury sustained in August had sidelined Davis until Week 3, and while he didn’t play every defensive snap, he did see the field for 67/76 last week, recording nine total tackles and a forced fumble. Davis should be expected to resume an every-down role for the Lions defense from Week 4 onwards which spells the end for any value Christian Jones briefly had.
Mack Wilson - Cleveland Browns
A season-ending chest injury to Christian Kirksey has forced the Browns to promote rookie Mack Wilson into the starting line-up as a three-down linebacker and that alone is enough to put Wilson squarely on our radars. A fifth-round selection and one-year starter for Alabama, Wilson profiled as a downhill thumper who shines as a blitzer so should slide straight into the Browns defense in place of Kirksey.
Charting five total tackles last week won’t have all your league rivals clamoring to get him on their rosters, but playing 66/66 defensive snaps suggests there is plenty more to come from Wilson over the next few games. Opportunity alone makes Wilson an LB3/4.
