Week 9 Essential NFL Practice News & Notes for Thursday

Browns QB Cody Kessler (concussion) took full practice reps again Thursday. According to beat writer Scott Petrak, Kessler is expected to start in Week 9 if he can clear the concussion protocol. He’s practicing fully, so it looks good. However, Hue Jackson has not committed to either Kessler or Josh McCown as the starter.

Colts QB Andrew Luck (right shoulder) was added to the injury report Thursday after taking limited practice reps. Luck was limited last Thursday as well and played through the injury.

Giants QB Ryan Nassib (right elbow) took limited practice reps again Thursday.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) took limited practice reps again Thursday. Roethlisberger is on track to play, though it’s a tough matchup against the Ravens. Roethlisberger has one passing touchdown in his last three trips to Baltimore.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) returned to limited practice reps Thursday after missing Wednesday practice.

Broncos QB Trevor Siemian (left shoulder) took full practice reps again Thursday. Siemian should be able to play through the injury, and he has a great matchup against the Raiders.

Chiefs QB Alex Smith (head, ear) took limited practice reps again Thursday. Smith apparently won’t play in Week 9. Nick Foles will get the start against the Jaguars, who are decent against the pass. Foles isn’t a bad streaming option after doing pretty well against the Colts (223 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts).
