LeGarrette Blount Week 8 vs. Colts
LeGarrette Blount had tough sledding against Houston, managing just nine yards on seven carries. He has gotten at least seven carries in each of the past three contests, but that's not likely enough to help you, though Indianapolis has allowed seven rushing TDs this season.
LeGarrette Blount Week 7 vs. Texans
LeGarrette Blount had eight carries for the second consecutive week, picking up 27 yards. Houston has allowed four TDs on the ground this season, so there's some hope that Blount, who is getting some short yardage carries for the Steelers, can get into the end zone. But he's not a strong play.
LeGarrette Blount Week 6 vs. Browns
LeGarrette Blount got his most extensive playing time last week for the Steelers at Jacksonville, but he still got just eight carries for 29 yards and three catches for 17 yards. The receptions aren't something you should get used to, however. He should get right around 10 touches again this week.
LeGarrette Blount Week 5 vs. Jaguars
After his 100-yard effort two weeks ago, LeGarrette Blount got just four carries for 25 yards last week. He's averaging 7.5 yards per carry this season, but he's still running second fiddle to LeVeon Bell. It's going to be hit and miss in terms of his overall fantasy value throughout the season unless Bell gets hurt.
LeGarrette Blount Week 4 vs. Bucs
Don't expect a 100-yard effort like LeGarrette Blount had last week at Carolina every time out, but if he's going to be the closer as he was last week, he could have some flex value. Tampa Bay's run defense has been so-so and Blount could also vulture a touchdown from LeVeon Bell from time to time. He might be useful as a flex play with a number of teams on a bye this week.
LeGarrette Blount Week 3 vs. Panthers
LeGarrette Blount got just three carries for eight yards last week in Baltimore. And it's obvious the Steelers aren't going to give him the ball at the expense of Le'veon Bell. There's just not enough here to consider playing Blount.
LeGarrette Blount Week 2 vs. Ravens
LeGarrette Blount got just four carries last week against Cleveland, while Le'Veon Bell had 21. Blount's first touch as a member of the Steelers did, however, go for a touchdown. But if he's only going to get a handful of carries, even if they are short-yardage touches, he's not worth using as a fantasy player.
LeGarrette Blount Week 1 vs. Browns
Look for LeGarrette Blount to get five to 10 touches this week with some possible goal line duties. That probably won't be enough to help you this week.
Fantasy Upside
A former 1,000-yard back in Tampa Bay, Blount has now bounced to his third team in the past three seasons in Pittsburgh. But he’s continued to be effective no matter where he’s gone, gaining 772 yards on just 153 attempts in 2013 for New England while also scoring seven times.
Fantasy Downside
He’s the clear No. 2 back in Pittsburgh, which struggled running the ball in 2013.
Bottom Line
Blount has looked good in training camp and the preseason. He’ll steal a few carries from starter Le’Veon Bell, even though the Steelers want to get Bell his 20 touches per game no matter what. That could mean 5-10 carries per game for Blount, which is similar to what he got in 2013. He could also steal some goal line carries as the Steelers are intent on having a more physical presence down by the goal line this season. I foresee at least 500 total yards for Blount this season. And if you’ve got Bell, you’d better take Blount as well.
