Week 10 at Indianapolis Colts
Two weeks ago in London, Donte Moncrief snagged four passes for 54 yards. While he didn’t score the entire month of October, Moncrief has become the Jaguars most consistent WR, recording at least 50 yards in four of the past five games. He has a favorable matchup on Sunday against the Colts No. 23 pass defense, making him a WR3/flex play.
Week 8 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Not much went right for the Jaguars offense last Sunday versus the Texans however, Donte Moncrief posted decent numbers. On a team-high 10 targets, he caught seven passes for 76 yards, equaling his second-highest yardage total of the season. Moncrief hasn’t scored the past three weeks but has a good matchup in London vs. the Eagles No. 24 pass defense. How much faith can you have in Blake Bortles though? Consider Moncrief a WR3/flex option.
Week 7 vs. Houston Texans
After leading the team in receptions the previous two weeks, Donte Moncrief was targeted only three times at Dallas last Sunday and finished without a catch. The Jaguars offense was on the field for only 21 minutes in the loss and were limited to less than 200 yards. Look for a better outing from Jacksonville at home versus the Texans this week, but Moncrief should be no more than a WR3/flex play.
Week 6 at Dallas Cowboys
For the second straight game, Donte Moncrief led the Jaguars in receiving. On a team-high 15 targets at Kansas City, he caught six passes for 76 yards and has 11 receptions for 185 yards the past two weeks. After a slow start to the season, Moncrief’s 36 looks now leads Jacksonville. Leonard Fournette remains out, so expect to see another pass-happy approach from Blake Bortles and the Jags, which could lead to a solid game for Moncrief.
Fantasy Upside
With Jacksonville shipping its top two receivers away during the offseason—Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns—Moncrief, who signed a one-year, $9.6 million fully-guaranteed contract with the Jaguars, has a golden opportunity to be productive. As NFL.com's Nate Burleson noted, Moncrief is "a tall wideout who loves going over the top of defenses." How big an opportunity? Moncrief, who when healthy has a skill set similar to Robinson's, is expected to line up as the starter opposite Marqise Lee with Keelan Cole as the third receiver.
Fantasy Downside
Moncrief battled injuries throughout his time in Indianapolis, so he must avoid those issues in Jacksonville. Beyond that, he's a little behind the curve in terms of chemistry with Blake Bortles, but reports early from training camp say that's trending in the right direction.
2018 Bottom Line
Considering Moncrief will be the man lined up opposite Lee in two-receiver sets, it's hard to argue with Burleson's contention that the former Colt is well-positioned to get some looks. The best news for fantasy managers interested is that Moncrief’s ADP doesn’t reflect that opportunity in early August.
Week 14 at Buffalo Bills
The forecast calls for snow in the afternoon and sustained winds of 18 miles per hour. Not exactly what you're looking for if you have a struggling offense like the Colts. If it's hard to pass, it's going to be hard for the receivers to catch. The Bills are also eighth in our aFPA versus WR rankings. Donte Moncrief's body of work this season plus these factors put him nowhere near your starting lineups.
Week 13 at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Colts offense has an implied team total of just 15.75 points. Only the Browns are lower in Week 13. As for the matchup? Woof. The Jaguars have allowed the fewest yards and touchdowns (2) to wide receivers this season. T.Y. Hilton is not startable, let alone Donte Moncrief this week.
Week 12 vs. Tennessee Titans
Donte Moncrief only has 4 receptions in his past four games. You are not starting him in Week 12 or any other week anytime soon.
Week 10 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
There are two startable fantasy assets on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10—T.Y. Hilton and Jack Doyle. Donte Moncrief does not deserve your attention.
Week 9 at Houston Texans
A goose egg for Moncrief last week. Now this challenge: the Colts have the sixth-lowest implied team total in Vegas this week, playing in Houston versus a Texans defense that has allowed just 1 touchdown to receivers who don't have quarterbacks named Tom Brady and Russell Wilson. Therefore, Moncrief does not belong in your lineups.
