Week 5 at Las Vegas Raiders
Allen Robinson finished 3-63 last week, which is a season-high in receiving yards for him. The frustrating part about Robinson is that he's still talented, it's just hard to produce in an offense that throws the ball as little as Chicago. The Bears are 31st in pass attempts, 31st in pass completions, 32nd in passing yards, and have just one passing touchdown all year. We expected Fields to boost Robinson's production, but instead, it's done the opposite. Robinson drops to a WR3 play this week in a tough matchup against the Raiders. Las Vegas has only given up one receiving touchdown to a receiver so far this year, and the seventh-fewest yards.
Week 4 vs. Detroit Lions
It's been a tough year for Allen Robinson, who hasn't reached 40 yards in a game so far this season. He has just two receptions in each of his last two games, which have been primarily played by rookie QB Justin Fields, who is expected to start again this week. While Robinson finished just 2-27 in Week 3, he did see a 30% target share, which is a positive takeaway. We don't anticipate another terribly low-yardage game from A-Rob, but his stock has taken a hit this season. He came into the year as a WR1 candidate, but at the moment he's a low-end WR2 to WR3. He gets an OK matchup against the Lions this week.
Week 3 at Cleveland Browns
The Bears struggled to do much of anything in the passing game last week between their two quarterbacks. Andy Dalton and Justin Fields combined to throw for 116 yards, which doesn't leave a lot of production for receivers like Allen Robinson who finished 2-24 on four targets. Thankfully A-Rob was able to score a touchdown in Week 2, but it's been a slow start to the season for him with a combined 59 yards through two games. We expect him to improve this week in a favorable matchup against the Browns. We'll also learn a lot about his chemistry with Fields as the rookie draws his first start this week. A-Rob should be viewed as a strong WR2 play this week.
Week 2 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Allen Robinson led the Bears with a healthy 11 targets, but couldn't get much going as he finished with 35 yards on six catches. Robinson had to overcome a tough Rams defense and having Andy Dalton as his quarterback. Things should get better for A-Rob in Week 2 as he gets a much more favorable matchup against the Bengals. Cincinnati gave up the third-most (tied) receiving yards to WRs in Week 1. We'd like Robinson more if the Bears turned to Justin Fields, but he should still play well in Week 2. We like A-Rob as a strong WR2 play in Week 2.
Week 1 at Los Angeles Rams
Allen Robinson should be set for a solid season in 2021, although it may get off to a slow start. He draws Jalen Ramsey and the Rams defense in Week 1. The Rams allowed the fewest passing yards and the fewest passing touchdowns to offenses last year. Interestingly enough, A-Rob actually faced the Rams last season and finished 4-70 on four targets, although a bulk of that came on a 42-yard play. Robinson should be viewed as a mid-range WR2 in a tough Week 1 matchup.
Fantasy Upside
Allen Robinson had a slow start in his first season with Chicago but has finished WR12 in each of his last two seasons. He saw at least 150 targets in both of those seasons while finishing with 98 and 102 receptions, respectively. He also topped 1,100 yards in each season. That’s a long-winded way of saying Robinson has been very consistent the last two years, and there’s no obvious sign of a major downturn in 2021. If anything, he could get improved quarterback play with the arrival of rookie Justin Fields. Robinson’s role stays mostly the same this season as the Bears added no major upgrades at receiver or tight end.
Fantasy Downside
Allen Robinson will be 28 when the NFL season begins, and that’s typically when we start to see wide receivers begin to decline. While we certainly don’t expect his stats to tank, it is something worth noting. Robinson is also on a franchise tag this season and didn’t reach a long-term deal with Chicago. With a 1-year deal, it’s certainly possible Robinson could become a trade target near the deadline and could land in a worse situation.
2021 Bottom Line
There’s really not too much to dislike about Robinson. He’s proven he can be successful despite having poor quarterbacks his entire career. He’s finished as a low-end WR1 nearly every year he’s been healthy, and he’s in a good situation in Chicago. He’s the top option without much competition, and he might finally have a good quarterback to throw him the ball, whether it be Fields or Andy Dalton. He’s a great third-round option, and a near steal in the fourth round.
Week 17 vs. Green Bay Packers
Allen Robinson had quite the revenge game last week, finishing 10-103 on 13 targets. It's his fourth 100-yard game this season, and second in the last three weeks. It's also the third time A-Rob has hit 10 receptions in a game this season. Robinson has been really consistent in 2020, with 12 games of at least four receptions and 70 receiving yards. Expect another solid game from Robinson this week against the Packers. In his previous matchup (Week 12) against Green Bay, Robinson finished 8-74-2 on 13 targets. It is a tough matchup on paper considering the Packers have allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to receivers, but we still like Robinson as a strong WR1 play this week.
Week 16 at Jacksonville Jaguars
Despite the Bears only throwing the ball a season-low 21 times last week, Allen Robinson was still able to be productive with a 4-83 game on five targets. He's only had three games this season below 70 receiving yards, so A-Rob has been pretty reliable for fantasy owners this year. He gets a revenge game this week against the Jaguars (No. 24 aFPA), where he should find success as it's a favorable matchup. Jacksonville has given up the fourth-most receiving TDs to WRs this season and A-Rob leads the Bears receiving corps in touchdowns. Robinson is a strong WR1 play in Week 16.
Week 15 at Minnesota Vikings
Allen Robinson had one of his best games of the season last week, finishing 9-123-1 on a team-high 13 targets. Robinson has averaged 7.7-90.7-1 in the three games since Mitch Trubisky took over as starting quarterback. ARob wasn't bad with Nick Foles, but his production has had a small uptick with Trubisky's arrival. This week he faces a Vikings defense he struggled against in Week 10 as he finished 6-43. However, the Bears offense as a whole struggled that game without David Montgomery. Robinson should have a better performance in Week 15, as we like him as a strong WR1 play.
Week 14 vs. Houston Texans
Allen Robinson had a solid 6-75 game off seven targets last week. He's now had at least 70 receiving yards in all but three games this season, making him a fairly reliable option in fantasy. Expect another solid game from ARob in Week 14 as he draws a favorable matchup against the Texans (No. 28 aFPA). Houston has given up the third-most receiving touchdowns (16) to wide receivers in the league this season. Robinson has been a strong player all season, and in a favorable matchup, he can easily be viewed as a WR1 this week. He was limited in practice with a knee injury, so his health is worth monitoring, but he should be good to go.
