I find it interesting how John has significantly altered his QB rankings for ROS after just one week. Eli Manning, who was ranked #6 pre-draft, hyped like there was no tomorrow and whom I drafted in the 9th round because he was such a “bargain,” is now ranked #14. Drew Brees went from #9 to #4, Peyton Manning went from #4 to #8, and Carson Palmer went from #16 to #9. What happened to the “Don’t panic – it’s only the first week,” philosophy that we always hear? Based on these rankings I should drop Eli and pick up Palmer, but I’m not so sure I want to do that based on Palmer’s injury risk. If there’s one thing you can count on from Eli, it’s durability. Just wondering if I should jump ship on Eli while I still have the opportunity to pick up Palmer. With our league’s small roster size, I can’t afford to carry 2 QBs.

I got some feedback from both Josh and John:

The Bush injury plays into the rise of Hyde as well. He's week-to-week which doesn't say a whole lot for a pending return. The QBs between Eli and Palmer are very close, in fact, all the QBs between 7-14 are very close, they said. It probably looks steep in terms of their current numbers compared to where they were in the yearly rankings, but the projected points are tight enough that you're going to see some change week to week.

And like I said, after Week 1, it's going to move, especially with the numbers so tight. It will become more stable as the year goes on.

I'm not sure the ROS rankings reflect panic more so than just the pace the respective players are heading for? I'll ask John and Josh what exactly goes into them and hopefully they can provide a clear answer. Obviously they are going to change very early on in the season until there is some stability.

Of course the rankings will change from preseason. I don't think anyone would have predicted Carlos Hyde would look as good as he did in his first game. Sure the rankings change after the first week, but it wouldn't be from panic, It would be from seeing something in a player or system that caused them to move up or down in the rankings

I stayed away from Carlos Hyde with John's preseason rank of #30 RB in my league. Noticed Hyde has moved to #9 for the rest of season. Thanks to John, drafted Gore instead.
