Scouting report

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Minnesota Vikings
DeVonta Smith had serviceable fantasy numbers for the opener. The targets (10) were there and he caught seven passes. That amounted to only 47 yards, but he did score the only receiving TD for Philly. The Eagles have many weapons but Smith and AJ Brown remain the focus on offense.

Smith will face the Vikings who have a below-average pass defense. Last year, he had seven receptions for 80 yards against Minnesota.

Start Smith as a high-end WR2 for Week 2. If it wasn't for Brown on the other side, he would be a WR1, but that takes away some of the plays Smith could make. If he is your second wide receiver, you have a good one.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at New England Patriots
DeVonta Smith might be the No. 2 receiver in Philadelphia, but you get WR1 numbers from him sometimes. Smith caught 95 passes and eclipsed the 1,000 receiving yard mark last season. He should be a playmaker again in 2023.

The Eagles face the Patriots whose defense was good last season. Smith definitely takes advantage of the attention AJ Brown gets and that should continue.

Start Smith as a high-end WR2 for Week 1 in all leagues and formats. Eagles offense will pick up where they left and that means qualify fantasy points from Smith.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Although he is the No. 2 receiver in Philadelphia behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith played more like a 1B last season. He had more targets and receptions than Brown and ended up being a WR1 at times during last season. Smith is very good and can take over a game. He especially excelled down the stretch for the Eagles.

Fantasy Downside
Smith doesn't have much downside as he is young and still can get better. But will Brown continue to be the dominant receiver keeping Smith from his numbers growing?

2023 Bottom Line
Smith is talented and will still be a major factor for the Eagles, but we see his numbers slightly regressing. He still ranks as a high-end WR2 and his ADP is early third round which is worth taking him as your second receiver.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. New Orleans Saints
DeVonta Smith has been on fire with three 100+ receiving yard game in his past four. He also has four touchdowns over that stretch including two last game. A.J. Brown's production has been similar and that is with two different quarterbacks throwing to them. The Eagles receiving duo might be the best in the NFL right now.

Smith as a tough matchup against the Saints who are ranked eighth in aFPA to wide receivers. It really shouldn't matter. Smith should have another good fantasy outing.

Start Smith as a solid WR2 for Week 17. The numbers should be good no matter who quarterbacks the Eagles offense as Smith has been steady the second half of the season.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Dallas Cowboys
The Eagles passing was clicking last week with two players amassing 100+ receiving yards including DeVonta Smith. He actually averaged over 25 yards per catch against Chicago. The receiving yard total was his second highest of the season and second time he went over 100 yards in the last three weeks.

Smith will face the Cowboys who are ranked 23rd in aFPA to wide receivers. In the first meeting with Dallas, he had five receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown. With QB Jalen Hurts out, the Eagles passing game will take a step back, but still have some success with the favorable matchup.

Smith should start as a high-end WR3 or Flex for Week 16. Definitely lower than lately because of the Hurts factor, but still will get you some fantasy points.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Chicago Bears
The consistency for DeVonta Smith continues as he has been targeted either 8 or 9 times over the last five games. Last week, he caught five passes for 64 yards and added a touchdown for the second straight week. He is a nice complement to A.J. Brown in an Eagles offense that is very efficient.

Smith faces the Bears who are ranked 22nd in aFPA to wide receivers. Should be another good afternoon for the Eagles offense.

Start Smith as a solid WR2 for Week 15. He has been very reliable to get fantasy points every week and this matchup dictates that should continue.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at New York Giants
DeVonta Smith recorded his second 100-yard receiving game of the season but first since Week 3. He also scored his fourth touchdown of the season. The successful outing came despite a huge game from A.J. Brown, as the passing game was red-hot last Sunday.

Smith will face the Giants who are ranked 19th in aFPA to wide receivers. He has been much better in recent weeks as his fantasy numbers hit a slump midseason.

Start Smith as a solid WR2 for Week 14.The Giants pass defense hasn't been great and Philly should be able put up some good passing numbers in what should be an intense division game.
