LAC WR Joshua Palmer - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Denver Broncos

Josh Palmer tied for the lead in targets against the Bills, converting his eight looks into five catches, 47 yards and 7.2 Half-PPR points. He finished as the WR46 for the week. Palmer has nine catches on 12 targets in the last two games.

Palmer's upside is considerably capped in Week 17, thanks to the less-than-inspiring quarterback play on his team and the horrible matchup with the Broncos. The No Fly Zone has shown signs of returning this season, with the Broncos ranking fourth in aFPA to wide receivers. Palmer's already low WR4 appeal would likely be completely obliterated if Keenan Allen returns to the lineup, although given the lost nature of the season it seems unlikely the Chargers (or Allen) would be motivated to get him back on the field.

LAC WR Joshua Palmer - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Buffalo Bills

Josh Palmer was back in the Chargers lineup and it looked like he'd never been away. In the sense that the offense was crumbling and looking disjointed, anyway. Palmer saw four targets and caught all of them for 113 yards and a touchdown on his way to 19.3 Half-PPR points, finishing as the WR11 in that format.

Palmer looks like being the leader of the wide receiver room again, with Keenan Allen's return in some doubt. Still, this promotion does not look like being one that will lead to fortune and glory with Easton Stick at quarterback and the Bills ranking tenth in aFPA to wide receivers to deal with. Palmer should make some noise as a mid-tier WR3, but to expect much more would be opening yourself up to a great deal of disappointment.

LAC WR Joshua Palmer - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Las Vegas Raiders

Josh Palmer looks set to play against the Raiders on Thursday night, a timely return with Keenan Allen set to miss the game. Palmer’s return is not likely to lead to many fantasy managers jumping for joy, given the Raiders stinginess to fantasy wide receivers (they rank eighth in aFPA) and the presence of Easton Stick under center. Still, with Allen missing, Palmer could see enough work to be an unexciting WR3 option this week.

Update: With Keenan Allen out, Palmer has some upside with potential extra targets headed his way. Still, with Stick at quarterback, he's too risky to trust in most leagues.

LAC WR Joshua Palmer - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New York Jets

Josh Palmer’s good run of form hit a bump in the road against the Bears in Week 8. Palmer came into the game slightly banged up with a knee issue, and he seemed to aggravate the injury during the game. He was able to continue, however, and finished with three receptions for 24 yards. Palmer has three or more grabs in six straight games, though no more than five, and his 24 yards were his lowest since Week 2. Palmer finished as the WR78 in Half-PPR scoring and is the WR55 in points per game.

Assuming he is healthy, we shouldn’t be expected an eruption from Palmer this week, facing the toughest wide receiver matchup in the entire league. The Jets rank first in aFPA to wide receivers, and fantasy managers expecting big things from Palmer should seriously their expectations. It’s hard to trust him as anything more than a high-end WR4 option this week.

LAC WR Joshua Palmer - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Chicago Bears

Joshua Palmer had his best game of the season in Week 7, catching five balls for 133 yards. Palmer has gone over 60 yards in each of his last four outings. Palmer finished as the WR11 last week, and over the last four games, he ranks as the WR23.

The Bears, who the Chargers play in Week 8, have actually been slightly less generous against wide receivers than other positions in 2023. They rank 16th in aFPA to the wideouts, compared to 30th against RBs and 20th versus tight ends. Palmer has been a steady performer, but he's still a way down the target totem pole. He should be able to produce WR3 numbers in Week 8.

LAC WR Joshua Palmer - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Kansas City Chiefs

Josh Palmer had quite a productive day against the Cowboys last week but wasn't able to turn it into much from a fantasy standpoint. He caught four passes for 66 yards, marking his third straight game with 60 or more yards. These deeds translated to 8.0 Half-PPR points, good for WR37 last week.

The Chiefs rank seventh in aFPA to wide receivers this week. Palmer's role gives him something approaching a WR3 floor, but there is very little ceiling about his profile. He looks like a WR4 option this week.

LAC WR Joshua Palmer - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Dallas Cowboys

After four games of the 2023 season, Josh Palmer has amassed 11 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown. He set a season-high with 77 yards in Week 4, but he is averaging a mere 6.4 Half-PPR points per game.

Wide receivers have not enjoyed much success against the Cowboys in 2023, with Dan Quinn's charges ranking 9th in aFPA to the position. Palmer should be viewed as no more than a WR4/Flex option in Week 6.
