One perfect series and done for Sam Bradford .

No doubt, facing the Baltimore Ravens ' second-string defense made it easier for the No. 1 pick.
Bradford made another favorable impression in his second preseason start, going 6 for 6 for 68 yards and a touchdown to open the St. Louis Rams' 27-21 victory over Baltimore on Thursday night. A.J. Feeley's thumb injury gave Bradford his starting shot last week, and the rookie may have done enough to get the nod in the opener Sept. 12 against the Cardinals.

"It's not up to me, it's up to our coaches," Bradford said. "I trust what they believe. If they think I'm the guy, I am. If not, that means I've got to work that much harder and get that much better before I am."

Coach Steve Spagnuolo refused to tip his hand, saying he and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur would meet to discuss the lineup.

There has been "speculation" that the St. louis Rams will call the Chargers about obtaining disgruntled receiver Vincent Jackson. This is just speculation rather than a report but the speculation came from an NFL source and the Chargers have acknowledged that "more than Seattle has called."

With Donnie Avery on IR and little depth or experience in the wide receiver corps, no team needs Jackson more than the Rams. A big target like Jackson would speed the development of Sam Bradford. In the wide open NFC West, the Rams could actually take a big jump with an improved passing attack and V-Jax would help Steven Jackson as one of the league's top run-blocking wideouts.

Fantasy Impact: 

There's no doubt that the Rams need a WR to match with their multi-million dollar QB. This "speculation" makes sense but there's no confirmed report.

Poised and precise, Sam Bradford made an impressive debut as a starting NFL quarterback. It may have earned him the No. 1 job in the regular-season opener.

The top pick in the NFL draft zipped passes between and over defenders, threw for two touchdowns then watched the second half from the sidelines as the St. Louis Rams beat the New England Patriots 36-35 on Josh Brown 's 37-yard field goal on the last play Thursday night.
But will Bradford be back under center for the Rams first snap Sept. 12 against the Arizona Cardinals?

"We've got to look at the film," coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "I want to see how he handled things when there was pressure."

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Donnie Avery left Thursday night's preseason game against New England with a right knee injury.

Avery, who led Rams wide receivers with 47 catches last season, was hurt with 1:32 left in the first half. He jumped for Sam Bradford's long pass down the right sideline, fell and clutched his right knee as the ball dropped incomplete.

Before Avery was carted off the field, NE wide receiver Wesley Welker went over and extended his hand. Welker is playing again after having surgery for a torn ligament in his left knee in February.

Avery, a second-round draft pick out of Houston in 2008, had 53 receptions as a rookie and started 28 games in his first two seasons. He caught two passes for 48 yards Thursday before being injured.

Fantasy Impact: 

We had Avery rated 57th with a 16th round ADP. He had some late-round sleeper value, but this is an injury to monitor if you were targeting him in your draft. It looked serious on the field, and Avery quite likely could be out for some time, maybe even the season. If so, Laurent Robinson would likely be joined by Brandon Gibson in the starting lineup, with Danny Amendola working out of the slot. More on this tomorrow as it develops.
