DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Philadelphia Eagles
The lone bright spot in the Dallas offense last week, Tony Pollard had one explosive play that went for a touchdown. For those fantasy managers that started him, you got a big break as Pollard only touched the ball eight times.

Normally I'd be fine sticking Pollard in the flex, but after getting just eight rushing attempts with no passing work, it is risky. For him to be worth it, you are banking on a touchdown and I'm not so sure that happens. I am benching Pollard this week until he shows us he will be involved in the passing game again.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Los Angeles Rams
If you thought Elliott had a bad game, just wait until you see Tony Pollard's numbers. Recording only six rushing yards on eight attempts, Pollard could not get anything going on the ground. To make matters worse, he was barely utilized in the passing game, securing just one catch for a measly two yards.

At this point, I am only comfortable starting Pollard as a deep flex option. He needs receiving work or a touchdown to pay off and if last week's trend continues, he is going to be a major bust this week. I'd look elsewhere if possible until Pollard can right the ship.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Washington Commanders
Doing most of his damage through the air two weeks ago, it was a much different story for Tony Pollard this past week. Recording zero receptions, Pollard logged 13 carries for an impressive 105 yards. Even though he had a great game running the ball, he only put up a mediocre 10 fantasy points due to his non-existent receiving role and failure to score.

This week, his role may be flipped yet again. I expect Dallas to get him more involved in the passing game as they may struggle on the ground. As the common theme with Pollard has been, start him as a solid flex play with RB2 upside.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at New York Giants
Tony Pollard was the star of the show last weekend. Putting up 43 rushing yards and a score on nine carries, he also added 55 yards on four receptions. Getting the touchdown was a nice bonus, but I think going forward that will fall in Elliott's favor.

The Giants defense looked solid last week playing the Panthers but this may be just a testament at how bad Carolina is. Even so, McCaffrey led the team with four catches. This bodes well for Pollard if Rush decides to keep him involved in the passing game. Pollard is an easy flex start.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Rushing the ball six times for eight yards while adding two catches for 14 yards, Tony Pollard disappointed many fantasy managers. If we dive a little deeper, these numbers don't tell the whole story. Pollard not only totaled just three fewer touches than Elliott, but he only played two less snaps than him. The usage is there. He just needs to execute.

It is yet to be seen how this new offense will go with Rush under center. For that reason, I am probably looking elsewhere if other options are possible. I want to see how this team unfolds and if they can operate without Prescott. I don't see Pollard as anything more than a deep league flex play.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
It seems like every training camp there is Tony Pollard hype. Whether it's Dallas planning on using him more to rest Elliott or wanting to get him in the slot to catch passes, it is always something. I refuse to buy into this until I see it. No matter how efficient or productive Pollard has been.

If you are in a pinch or need a flex play, Pollard is not a bad option. I expect the run game to struggle and in a game projected for a lot of points and yards, Pollard could be productive if used as a receiver. It's a risk, but if your roster is thin, there are worse options.

DAL RB Tony Pollard - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Tony Pollard is one of the most popular Zero RB targets for the upcoming season. Another example of an explosive and versatile running back from Memphis, Pollard has increased his receptions and receiving yards in each of his first three NFL seasons. Last year, Pollard also saw a career high in rushing attempts (130) and rushing yards (719) while averaging a robust 6.2 yards per touch (second among all running backs).

Pollard produced six RB2 or better weeks while sharing touches with Dallas’ clear lead RB1, Ezekiel Elliott. However, the departure of wide receiver Amari Cooper has allowed the Cowboys to explore Pollard on the field as a slot receiver even with Elliott in the backfield. Pollard has tremendous fantasy upside if Elliott ever was injured, but his projected increased role solidifies his standalone value.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Owner Jerry Jones reiterated Elliott’s role as the team’s lead RB once again, leaving fantasy drafters to speculate if Pollard’s increased opportunity is going to be a reality. He is currently residing as a mid-round fantasy RB pick, which has a historic large variance of outcomes. If Elliott remains healthy all season, will there be enough opportunity for Pollard to make a significant redraft impact?

2022 Bottom Line
I’m buying Pollard’s role increasing, and see an average Cowboys receiving core in need of another weapon. If offensive coordinator Kellen Moore uses Pollard in an Alvin Kamara-type role, Pollard could be a league-winner in PPR formats. There is always a risk in the annual running back “dead zone” in fantasy drafts, but Pollard’s efficiency on just a 33.7 percent snap share is a harbinger of great things to come in 2022.
