Scouting report

by Matt Rittle

NE TE Tim Wright - Week 19, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 18 vs Ravens
Wright is always capable of scoring points, but the Patriots' reliance on Gronk for a very long time now has rendered Wright just shy of a complete fantasy-zero. He could be considered a boom/bust option, but understand the history speaks to a high chance of bust.

NE TE Tim Wright - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Bills
Wright has proven over the course of the season he can score fantasy points when given chances. With the #1 seed already wrapped up, Gronk may see the bench after just a quarter or two, opening the door to possible Wright action. There's some risk and unknown here though, and his opponent offers the stingiest aFPA to TEs in the league. There's some upside, but plenty of risk as well. We rank him only as a low-end TE2.

NE TE Tim Wright - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Jets
Wright is always a threat to put in some relief or vulture work in the Patriots TE-friendly system, but has now gone back to back weeks without a reception. He may be a great roster guy for the Patriots, but is impossible to trust in fantasy.

NE TE Tim Wright - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs Miami
While Wright has proven he's capable of scoring fantasy points in New England's TE friendly system, his usage continues to be extremely difficult to predict. Coming off three targets in the last two weeks, facing the toughest aFPA matchup for TEs, no one should consider Wright as an option this weekend.

NE TE Tim Wright - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Chargers
Wright caught his lone target in Week 13, putting up a 1-12 line on the day. He's capable of producing in this offense, but doesn't see enough targets to even be considered a boom/bust option. Even if you're desperate, you can find better TE's to start on the WW.

NE TE Tim Wright - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Green Bay
Wright put up a nice 5-36-2 line in Week 12. He's proven capable of performing whenever given the chance. However he's recorded zero or one target in over half the games to date, and only recorded more than five targets in three games. While he's always capable of putting up numbers, his risk of not being involved is just too high to recommend him as anything other than a hail Mary with a decent shot at finding pay dirt.

NE TE Tim Wright - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs Detroit

In Week 11, Wright recorded his third one-catch game of the season. The fact two of those catches were touchdowns somehow demonstrates Wright's 2014 campaign perfectly. (He had a 1-1-1 line in Week 6, and last weeks 1-2-1 line.)

He's capable of putting in some random work here and there, but with Rob Gronkowski on the field, Wright remains an unreliable asset.
