Scouting report

TB RB Peyton Barber - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Seattle Seahawks

Peyton Barber led the Bucs in snaps last week, but not by much. He had a limited role on offense, carrying the ball 10 times for 20 yards while catching one pass for eight yards. He's in a dreaded timeshare with Ronald Jones and Dare Ogunbowale, and is only really valuable if he manages to find the endzone. Given that, he's not much more than a desperation flex play against Seattle.

TB RB Peyton Barber - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Tennessee Titans

Peyton Barber led the Bucs in rushing attempts the last time they played, carrying the ball eight times for 28 yards. But he was only one of the three to not score a touchdown, and he also finished with no receptions. Tampa's backfield is a mess and impossible to predict at this point. All three backs should be viewed as low-end flex plays moving forward unless someone gets injured.

TB RB Peyton Barber - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Carolina Panthers

Peyton Barber scored a touchdown last week while rushing eight times for 32 yards. He also caught a pass for negative one yard. Barber is stuck in a timeshare with Ronald Jones and Dare Ogunbowale, so his ceiling is greatly limited. This week he faces a Panthers team he had success against earlier in the year (23 carries, 82 yards, one TD), but it'd be surprising to see him get the same amount of touches as he did in that Week 2 matchup. Barber is a touchdown-or-bust low-end flex play.

TB RB Peyton Barber - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at New Orleans Saints

Peyton Barber scored a touchdown last week, but that was about all he did. He finished the day with 19 yards on nine carries with no receptions. He also played a season-low 26% of the offensive snaps. This has been the second time this season he's been out-snapped by Dare Ogunbowale. We expect him to put up better rushing numbers than last week, but he's not much more than a low-end RB3 or flex play.

TB RB Peyton Barber - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Los Angeles Rams

After playing 65% of the snaps in Week 2, Peyton Barber dropped down to playing 36% of the snaps in Week 3. He was still involved in the offense, however, rushing 13 times for 48 yards and catching both of his two targets for seven yards. Barber will be a frustrating player to own as he can go from 23 carries down to 13 carries in any given week. He gets a somewhat favorable matchup this week as he faces a Rams defense allowing the eighth-most fantasy points to running backs this season. I say somewhat because the Rams do have a good defense. Barber isn't much more than a flex play in Week 4.

TB RB Peyton Barber - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. New York Giants

Peyton Barber saw a lot more action in Week 2 compared to Week 1. His snaps increased (from 36% to 65%) and his touches increased (from 10 to 24). He was productive in Week 2, rushing 23 times for 82 yards a touchdown, which is similar to what he did most of last year. Lots of touches, low rushing average, enough yards to be productive and a touchdown here and there. Meanwhile, Barber's backfield partner Ronald Jones saw much less action, playing just 12% of the offensive snaps.

Barber gets a favorable matchup this week against the Giants and should see a similar gameplan to Week 2. If the Bucs can control the game, expect more Barber. If they fall behind, as they did in Week 1, expect more Jones. This is a game the Bucs can control, so we like Barber as an RB2 play.

TB RB Peyton Barber - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Carolina Panthers

Peyton Barber didn't lead the Bucs' backfield in carries, yards or snaps in Week 1. He ran eight times (compared to Ronald Jones' 13) for 33 yards and finished with 25 offensive snaps, two behind Dare Ogunbowale and three ahead of Jones. He also caught two passes for 12 yards.

Barber will no doubt be used in this offense, but Tampa's approach by using all three backs will really limit his ceiling. He's not much more than a low-end RB3 play this week, even though he gets a favorable matchup against the Panthers.
