Jets want to throw ball more to RB Le'Veon Bell

Jets coach Adam Gase has emphasized throwing the ball to Le'Veon Bell in recent days, a possible foreshadowing of what he has planned for this season.

“I feel like we can find better ways to get him the ball to help him create more explosive plays,” Gase said Tuesday. “We can get him in space better than what we did last year. I think that there was a lot of good that came out of what he did in the receiving game last year. But I don’t think we ever really gave him enough space to work, because that’s his game.”

Fantasy Impact: 

The addition of Frank Gore might actually help Bell in this regard. Gase trusts Gore more than any of the backup running backs from a year ago. There is potential for the Jets to have Gore in the backfield and Bell split out wide to create some interesting matchups the story said. The story added over the last two practices, QB Sam Darnold has targeted Bell more.

Le'Veon Bell lacking explosiveness

Jets RB has been the third-best running back in training camp and is lacking explosiveness and vision, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. "This information is not being gathered from anonymous sources, but two sources I trust implicitly – my left and right eyes," wrote Costello.

"Anyone pushing for Bell to be the centerpiece of the Jets offense has not watched a snap of practice."

Fantasy Impact: 

Bell has been usurped by Frank Gore and La'Mical Perine in terms of effectiveness, a huge blow to Bell's fantasy stock. Gore is 37 and Perine is new to the offense, which makes Bell's lack of everything an issue if you have Bell or intend to pick him in fantasy. The Jets backfield is a hard pass until further notice.

"I know Le’Veon Bell is the all-pro, highest-paid, big-play guy with the all-world reputation, but the Jets are getting far more production out of Gore," wrote Connor Hughes of The Athletic.

Hughes makes it clear that Le'Veon Bell is the better talent in the Jets backfield, but Frank Gore is a better fit for the offense. Bell continues to "dance" in the backfield and defenses are closing in on him.

Fantasy Impact: 

The Jets backfield is a mess. Frank Gore leading a backfield at 37 years old is an issue and further indication to avoid all backs in that group.

Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle, illness, out) did not practice Wednesday. Well, it was a good run for Powell. LeVeon Bell should return to his starting role with Ty Montgomery (if active) serving as his primary backup.
