Scouting report

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Los Angeles Rams

It was good to see Kyler Murray back in action last week against the Bears. Not only did he return to the lineup, but he also returned looking healthier than he has since Week 4. He ran the ball 10 times for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns, supplementing his 123 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Murray only had to throw the ball 15 times as the Cardinals dominated the game defensively.

This week, Murray faces a Rams defense that ranks 19th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. It has all the makings of a shootout, which should lead to significant fantasy production from both offenses. We have Murray ranked as an elite option and he should be active in all leagues.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Chicago Bears

Kyler Murray is expected to return this week after missing the past three games with injury. He returns to a Cardinals team that sits at 9-2 and has gone 2-1 in his absence. Murray has accounted for multiple touchdowns in all but two games this season, and his efficiency – 72.7% completion percentage – has helped him to QB1 numbers in most of his starts, even though he hasn’t been running as effectively over his past four games.

This week, Murray faces a Bears defense that ranks 28th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. With a good matchup, a clean bill of health, and the likely return of DeAndre Hopkins to the lineup as well, fantasy managers should feel good about putting Murray back into their lineups. We have him ranked just outside our top-five quarterbacks this week and he should be active in all leagues.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Seattle Seahawks

Kyler Murray has missed the last two matchups with an injury, and he’ll be a question mark again going into this week’s game against the Seahawks. He’s been great when he’s played this season, but with a late inactive status two weeks in a row, it’s hard to trust he’ll be active this week. Perhaps after Colt McCoy struggled so much against the Panthers, the Cardinals will be more motivated to get Murray back on the field.

The Seahawks rank 13th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks and did a pretty good job against the Packers last week, despite the terrible offensive showing. Still, the Cardinals have been taking it easy with Murray, so if he’s active, I think he’ll be safe to start. Just watch that injury report very carefully and make sure you have a backup option, just in case he’s a late scratch again.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at San Francisco 49ers

Kyler Murray had a rough outing in a tough loss against the Packers last week, throwing for 274 yards and a pair of interceptions. He also added 21 yards on the ground. The Cardinals scored three touchdowns, but all were in the run game. Still, Murray and the Arizona offense are worth betting on. Even if his rushing production doesn’t return to where it started the season, he’s still averaging 284.5 yards and 2.13 touchdowns per game through the air.

This week, he’ll face a 49ers defense that ranks 31st in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. The 49ers added some defensive line help at the trade deadline, but I would still expect the Cardinals to be able to move the ball, Murray’s production this season makes him worth starting in any matchup, and with how the 49ers have struggled, he should have success this week. Start him.

Update: Murray may give it a go, but it doesn't sound like the team is optimistic. Be sure to pivot to another option.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Green Bay Packers

Kyler Murray had a solid enough game against the Texans last week, tossing three touchdowns and one interception to go with 261 passing yards. Murray was held to just 10 rushing yards on six attempts, continuing his recent trend of minimal rushing production. After starting the season with three straight games with a rushing touchdown, he’s gone without over his last four. The passing production is still there, however, with seven touchdown passes over his last two weeks combined.

This week, Murray faces a Packers defense that ranks 27th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. The Packers should keep the game more interesting than the Texans did, and expect lots of fireworks and another excellent fantasy outing. Start him as a top option in all formats.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Houston Texans

Kyler Murray decimated a tough Browns defense last week with four touchdown passes in a lopsided victory. He had only six rushing yards and 229 passing yards, but the touchdowns more than made up for his limited yardage. It’s a little concerning that Murray has been limited to single-digit rushing yards two weeks in a row. Still, he remains a dual-threat option and his 17 total touchdowns this season mitigate most of those “concerns.”

This week, Murray has a great matchup against a Texans defense that ranks 24th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. Expect the Cardinals to deliver another thrashing this week, and for Murray to provide multiple touchdowns again. We have him ranked as an elite option once again, and he’s a must-start each week.

ARI QB Kyler Murray - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Cleveland Browns

Kyler Murray had a quiet game against the 49ers last week, with just one rushing yard on seven attempts to go with his 239 yards and a touchdown passing. Murray has been one of the most dynamic players in the league so far this season and has already accounted for 10 passing and three rushing touchdowns. Expect the Cardinals to get back to scoring 30-plus points after a tough, 17-10 victory against San Francisco.

This week, Murray faces a Browns defense that ranks 29th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks, and just gave up all the fantasy points to Justin Herbert last week. Murray is a must-start every week regardless of matchup, but he’s especially enticing after Herbert’s explosion in Week 5. Start him as a top-five, elite fantasy option.
