Scouting report

BAL RB Keaton Mitchell - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Keaton Mitchell continues to get more work in this offense, with nine carries and a reception for 62 yards from scrimmage against the Rams last week. Mitchell now has nine or more touches in three straight games, and while that hasn’t produced big fantasy numbers yet, he’s being productive with the chances he’s given. He averaged 8.5 yards per carry this season and is a threat to break a big play with every opportunity.

This week, Mitchell faces a Jacksonville defense that ranks 10th in aFPA to opposing running backs. This looks like a game where the passing attack will flourish and since Mitchell is still splitting time, it’s hard to trust him. His upside and expanding role makes him worth considering as a RB3 or flex option, but realize he’s a bit of a boom-or-bust option.

BAL RB Keaton Mitchell - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Keaton Mitchell looked pretty good against the Chargers before the bye last week. He didn’t find the end zone, but he led the Baltimore backfield in both snaps and touches, finishing with nine carries and a pair of receptions for a total of 89 yards from scrimmage. Mitchell is fast and shifty, but he also seems to be patient enough to stick around as a runner in this league.

This week, Mitchell faces a Rams defense that ranks 17th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Mitchell should be considered a solid RB3 option with some flex potential. If he can keep getting double-digit touches, his value could grow considerably, but for now, it’s hard to trust him as more than a boom-bust flex starter.

BAL RB Keaton Mitchell - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Los Angeles Chargers

After some bluster from John Harbaugh heading into the game, Keaton Mitchell was held to just 41 yards on eight carries and a reception in a victory over the Bengals last week. Mitchell continues to be a dynamite option with carries over 20 yards in each of the last three games, but his workload is likely to be inconsistent, especially with Gus Edwards continuing to be so effective in short-yardage situations. His snap count was higher than Justice Hill’s though and was at a season-high 36%, so if you blew your FAAB on him last week, don’t worry too much. Signs still point to an increased role for the rookie moving forward.

This week, Mitchell faces a Los Angeles defense that ranks 27th in aFPA to opposing running backs. The Chargers can put points up on offense, which should keep the Ravens from moving into positive game script for the entire game, but Mitchell’s usage is going to be inconsistent. He’s a boom-or-bust RB3 option this week.

BAL RB Keaton Mitchell - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Keaton Mitchell had another long touchdown last week against the Browns, his second long score in as many weeks. He finished the game with just three carries and one reception, but gained 66 yards and the coaching staff has indicated they want to get him the ball more frequently. In an average matchup, with some rumors of an increased role in the offense, Mitchell has upside but is still risky for fantasy lineups. Consider him a boom-bust RB3 option this week.

BAL RB Keaton Mitchell - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Cleveland Browns

Keaton Mitchell was limited to just one touch against the Lions in Week 7, but then busted out against Seattle in his second appearance last week. He finished with nine carries for 138 yards and a touchdown and demonstrated impressive speed and vision. Mitchell has upside, but he’s still third on the depth chart - for now - and this backfield isn’t going to just dismiss Gus Edwards. Roster Mitchell in case his role expands, but for now, chalk up last week’s performance to garbage time in a lopsided victory.
