CLE RB Jerome Ford - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 @ Philadelphia Eagles
It looked like Jerome Ford had missed the D'Onta Foreman bullet for a moment, but he's right back in the rotation, limiting Ford to nine rushes and three targets in Week 5 in what was slated to be a good matchup. This is likely the last week without Nick Chubb (or Nyheim Hines), so play Ford if you need to, but an RB3 outcome is probably the most likely.

CLE RB Jerome Ford - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 @ Washington Commanders
Jerome Ford lost work in Week 2 to D'Onta Foreman —who the team cut in August— and went on to post 64 yards on nine opportunities. Foreman, in turn, lost his new opportunity in Week 3, while Ford jumped back to a respectable 14 opportunities. With his re-gained RB1 moniker, he'll take on a Commanders defense that ranks 27th in aFPA to the position. Ford can be considered a high-end RB2.

CLE RB Jerome Ford - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 @ Las Vegas Raiders
Jerome Ford lost work in Week 2 to D'Onta Foreman —who the team cut in August— and went on to post 64 yards on nine opportunities. Foreman, in turn, lost his new opportunity in Week 3, while Ford jumped back to a respectable 14 opportunities. With his re-gained RB1 moniker, he'll take on a Raiders defense that ranks 31st in aFPA to the position and will be without Maxx Crosby. Ford can be considered a high-end RB3.

CLE RB Jerome Ford - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. New York Giants
Jerome Ford lost work to D'Onta Foreman —who the team cut in August— and went on to post 64 yards on nine opportunities. That presumably shouldn't be a weekly occurrence, but the team are huge favorites here against the Giants so his upside takes a big bump as the third-down back. This isn't a favorable spot, and Ford should be considered an RB3, for this week at least.

CLE RB Jerome Ford - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 @ Jacksonville Jaguars
During Opening Weekend, Ford ranked top-ten among the position in snap rate, route participation, target share, and expected fantasy points. He's earning a larger role than almost any other back in the RB2-range and the Jaguars are coming off of a game in which they allowed 86 yards on nine running back catches. Fire up Ford wherever you've got him.

CLE RB Jerome Ford - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Dallas Cowboys
Jerome Ford is a sensible option as a fringe RB2/3 in Week 1, but his floor is closer to zero than his ceiling is close to an RB1 outcome. There are a lot of red flags here, not least of which is Nick Chubb returning and sending Ford into the fantasy abyss by the second half of the season. This seems like a classic "you get what you pay for" situation, and Ford can be used as a fine option in these early-season spots.

CLE RB Jerome Ford - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Jerome Ford made the most out of his sophomore year opportunities, jumping up the depth chart and racking up over 1,100 total yards on 248 touches. After Nick Chubb went down in Week 2, Ford took control of the backfield, logging 51.5% of the snaps and 39.1% of the rushing attempts from Weeks 3-18, finishing as the RB22 in half-PPR points (11.0) during that span. If Chubb has issues with being ready by Week 1, or is simply not the same player after his second major knee injury, Ford looks to be the first man up.

Fantasy Downside
Ford did perfectly fine with his touches last season, but it wasn't anything to write home about. His 3.9 YPC were mediocre, while his yards after contact (2.87) and yards per route run (0.96) were slightly below league average. The team also opted to lean on Kareem Hunt near the goal-line, where the veteran out-touched him 12-to-4, scoring seven touchdowns to Ford's three. Hunt is now out of the picture but the team brought in Nyheim Hines and D'Onta Foreman to help ease the load if Chubb can't return to form. If Chubb does return to form, Ford will be downgraded to nothing more than a bench stash.

2024 Bottom Line
Jerome Ford is a very sensible selection at his current ADP as a floor play that can't hurt you much, considering his draft cost. But his floor is closer to zero than his ceiling is close to an RB1 outcome. There are a lot of red flags here, not least of which is Nick Chubb returning and sending Ford into the fantasy abyss by the second half of the season. This seems like a classic "you get what you pay for" situation.
